Did Dr. Blackgaard have a split
personality disorder because he acted one way and another (I know of
Edwin his twin)? And did he actually have a sister and a grand
daughter (Name Not A Number I)? I can't imagine him ever getting
married and if he did God have mercy on his poor wife.
-Submitted by Katie B.

 |
To my knowledge, Dr. Regis Blackgaard never had a
split personality disorder. Regis was a very sinister, conniving
man. It is more likely that he said one thing and did another,
making him a liar. He was a criminal, after all. He probably also
lied about having a sister and granddaughter. He used some dialogue
regarding his "granddaughter" in
A Name, Not a Number
to move forward with his diabolical plans overseas. With all the
horrible plans of Dr. Blackgaard to take over the world and tear
down Whit's End brick by brick, I somehow doubt he had time for
marriage.

Is Nick a Christian?
-Submitted by Natasha V. & Tasha
|
 |
The audio series never specifically
addresses whether or not Nick Mulligan becomes a Christian. We do
find, however, that Nick Mulligan is heading the right direction in
A Lamb's Tale.
Focus on the Family's Clubhouse magazine once featured a
story in which Nick becomes a Christian, but we are not told in the
audio series that Nick has made a decision.

It occurred to me that the
characters of Lucy Cunningham and Mandy Straussberg have a lot of
similarities. They're both the longest lasting member of their
"generation" of kids, they both seem more mature than the others,
they both often try unsuccessfully to talk some boy out of doing
something foolish. Was Mandy intended to replace Lucy?
-Submitted by Dr. Ichabodia
|
 |
Lucy Cunningham Schultz-Davis and
Mandy Straussberg do seem to share some striking similarities, but
Mandy was not created to replace Lucy's character. Each character
has his/her own personality. Mandy might have been somewhat modeled
after Lucy's personality, but she is not a replacement. I think the
show would get boring if characters were created simply to replace
previous ones.

Will Eugene and Katrina ever have
a baby?

At the moment, there are no plans to
introduce a baby to the Meltsner family. Paul McCusker details why
in an audio response, here.

In the episode Karen,
Karen says words from a song. What is the name of the song?
-Submitted by Rebekah
|
 |
The song Karen recites in
Karen is a hymn
titled In a Land of Fadeless Day by John R. Clements.
Lyrics
In the land of fadeless day
Lies the city four-square;
It shall never pass away,
And there is no night there.
God shall wipe away all tears;
There's no death, no pain, nor fears;
And they count not time by years;
For there is no night there.
All the gates of pearl are made
In the city four-square;
All the streets with gold are laid,
And there is no night there.
And the gates shall never close
To the city four-square;
There life's crystal river flows,
And there is no night there.
There they need no sunshine bright,
In that city four-square;
For the Lamb is all the light,
And there is no night there.

their wedding vows on May 14th (For

you're curious to see them.

Can I submit a script to
Adventures in Odyssey?
|
 |
Unfortunately, due to legal reasons,
the Odyssey team does not accept scripts from AIO fans. If you'd
like other fans to see your work, you can
e-mail your script to us and we will post it in our
Chicken Soup for the AIO Soul
section.

Why did the Odyssey writers have
Eugene find his dad and brother just to have them go back to Africa?
Will we ever hear from them again? -Submitted by Leanne
|
 |
After so many years, the Odyssey
creators couldn't pass up an opportunity to tie up loose ends with
Eugene's missing father. We learn way back in
Last in a Long Line
that Eugene's dad was "lost" in an archaeological expedition, but no
answers were given to this mystery for years.
What better way to do that than with a story arc in which he finally
gets to see his dad? The main purpose of the
Eugene's search for his father storyline is to clear up loose ends
and not necessarily to keep Leonard Meltsner in Odyssey. After all,
Leonard wasn't in Odyssey for years. He doesn't seem to belong
there. Yet, there is still hope that Leonard and Everett may show up
in a future episode. Keep listening.

When are they going to stop
making Adventures In Odyssey? -Submitted
by Annie
|
 |
The day Adventures in Odyssey
says goodbye is the day Odyssey fans stop buying the brand's
products. AIO pays for itself, and fans have a lot to do with
Odyssey's success. It's a sales-driven series. Each time an album is
released, Focus watches the sales. If they're selling enough albums,
the funding comes in to let them know people are still interested.
Ultimately, the sales drive the show forward--not just fan-ship.
Also, as long as the writers have a story to tell, AIO will live on.

Does Mr. Whittaker ever get
bored? -Submitted by Jared's alien in
Arizona
|
 |
I'm sure Whit does go through phases
of boredom. I guess that's why you see him tinkering with a new
invention or sitting down for an evening with a cup of hot cocoa and
Robert Lewis Stevenson. You didn't think he'd play with "Whit's
Boredom Buster," did you?

Hi! In Cousin Albert there
is a Melvin (or Marvin, I can't really remember his name) and I was
wondering if he was in any way, shape, or form, related to Chris?
-Submitted by Marian
|
 |
It's funny you should ask. Actually,
Marvin is voiced by Phil
Lollar, who is in no way related to
Chris Anthony;
unless you count Noah (the guy who built the ark), but that's a
whole other story.

Will Mark Prescott ever come back
to Odyssey? -Submitted by Lu
|
 |
The character of Mark Prescott was
created specifically for the original novels written by
Paul McCusker. There are
currently no plans for Mark to cross over into the audio series.
That would be rather unique, wouldn't it? I think a lot of the
long-time fans would like to see something like that.

Is Robert Easton going to be used
for Bart Raffbone again?
-Submitted by GS & Trini
|
 |
The Rathbone family stuck around for
years on Adventures in Odyssey. Due to the passing of actor
Walker Edmiston, the
show lost the voice for both Tom and Bart. Robert Easton was cast as
a test role as Bart's character. While I think he did a pretty good
job capturing the complexity of Bart Rathbone's voice, the Odyssey
team has no current plans to bring back Bart. It's time to let him
fade away...for now.

For some reason I thought you
quit producing Odyssey last year, with the voice of Tom Riley
passing away and the economic problems of the country. So I was
pleasantly surprised to find out about album 51! But it seems like
there has been a major change going on, with new characters and a
new voice for Whit. What happened? -Submitted
by Rebecca, Ashleigh, & John
|
 |
Regarding the new voice of Whit, you
can read more about that in a previous question,
here. Also
probably one of the big questions on everyone's lips is, why the
drastic change in characters? Well, Album 51 marks a new era for
Adventures in Odyssey. Call it a fresh start to the series.
The AIO creators decided that they needed to re-work the show so as
to keep it moving forward for years to come. The older characters
aren't "gone" from Odyssey. The focus has moved over to welcome new
characters and situations. While many of us don't like change, I'm
sure there are some good things ahead. Stay tuned!

 |
Why did they change the look of
the characters? -Submitted by Jordan B.
|
 |
Before Album 51 came out, the
Odyssey producers felt it was time to update the look of the
character illustrations. We had seen the overweight version of Whit
for many years, along with the familiar images of Connie and Eugene.
The idea of redesigning the characters came at a good time when the
show was moving in a new direction. I think it would be safe to say
that changing the look of Adventures in Odyssey isn't the end
of the world. Most listeners picture the characters in their own
little way. That's what is so unique about radio drama. You
get to imagine the characters in your own mind... and that's what
really matters.

In I Slap Floor, Edwin
Blackgaard was telling Whit why he was changing to food humor. He
started to tell about a certain show that sounds familiar. He said
he saw two ladies that were working in a chocolate factory, and had
to start packaging it in there mouth. Wasn't that a real show on TV?
I have a feeling it is, but can't remember. -Submitted

The scene described by Edwin
Blackgaard in
I Slap Floor
references the TV show, I Love Lucy. It's a classic!
