Would you rather debate Countess or Ragtag for 2 hours straight on a very difficult subject? (be honest :P)

Would you rather debate in person, or over the internet?

What do you think is the purpose of debates, and how important are they?

OxR! What a rude question. I think he'd rather debate ragtag because there is more hope of convincing. ;)

Which candy is your least favorite?

If you could travel to any country, which one would it be?

Billie or Freema?

@Bethany I did not grow up doing Halloween, I do celebrate it now though.

My hero is Mother Maria: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_Maria

@MF Not a fan of snakes or reptiles. I would rather help someone become a Christian.

@Ox I'd rather debate in person and for the reasons MF gave I would rather debate Ragtag

@Batgirl Least favorite candy, licorice

Are my expenses paid or not?

Freema, not a fan of Bille

I've run a 5k but not a marathon

Edit: Missed this question "What do you think is the purpose of debates, and how important are they?" I think the purpose of debates is to learn more about other points of view so that we can emphasize and love others more. Also to arrive at the truth. So I think they're really important.

What is your favorite youth group game? (meaning, a kinda goofy game :P)

If you could spend time with a large group of people (like, 30+), what would you play/do?

Do you like puns?

What do you think of this meme? :P

I haven't been in youth group in forever, we used to play dodgeball and capture the flag a lot.

Why would I want to spend time with such a large group? But if it had to be so large I'd want to be doing something like a murder mystery or LARP (Live Action Role Playing)

I have no strong feelings one way or the other

Good meme, if we truly believe that the Bible is one of the greatest pieces of literature to rival Homer and Shakespeare then it would be foolish to claim that while both of those writings require extensive research, cultural knowledge, and guidance to understand we can simply pick up the Bible and understand it's meaning.

I donno man. I fell asleep in all the background lectures on Homer but I still understood it when I read it.

And if part of the point of debate is to better help us understand, love, and emphasize with someone we don't naturally disagree wouldn't it be better to debate for two hours with someone we really disagree with and need to better comprehend rather than someone we could probably convince? You never said the point was to convince? :P

So you got all the references to the Greek gods and goddesses without studying Greek mythology?

The convince portion comes with finding the truth, if we know the truth we should convince others of it

But what is more important? An opportunity to learn how to love someone or an opportunity to find truth or help someone find it?

Yes actually, I knew a tiny bit of Greek Mythology from when I was a kid but I forgot most of it but I picked it up fairly quickly which gods were which and what they were like I MIGHT have used Wikipedia it a little bit.

Do you think that God can speak to us outside of our ability to understand things intellectually? Like an emotional message? After all there is poetry in The Bible.

I don't see why we can't do both. Different circumstances will call for different reasons.

So you did have knowledge beforehand, did you inherently understand the Greek states and the political interplay between them and Troy?

I think that one of the main ways God speaks to us is outside our ability to understand things intellectually. One of the things that drew me to Orthodoxy was the tradition of mysticism or revelation through direct interaction with God.

But I guess my point is there is always more to learn about the Bible but we don't need to know a bunch to get something out of it just as I got something out of The Iliad and The Odyssey even without tons of other knowledge. Academic study of the Bible is grand but lets not alienate the non academics among us.

If you believe in the importance of mysticism then why do you try so hard to believe the truth and know what is true through intellectual means and convince others of the truth through intellectual means?

I'm not denying you can get things out of the Bible at every level of reading or studying. I was replying to a meme about a "simple" reading of the Bible and said that's not all there is to the Bible. We shouldn't alienate the non-academics but neither should we deny, which I know you're not, the deeper academic truths of the Bible.

Again, this isn't an either/or I think intellectual truth is still important. We need both.

Oh, my bad that is me. I made that name back when there was confusion as to the Peter Capaldi Doctor would be Twelve or Thirteen.
