May I ask why this topic isn't specifically in The Debate Hall? Not that it really matters, just curious.

It's not really a debate discussion... More like "general discussion" of the debate vampires.

Always backing up your debates with logic and good reasons is one requirement...I think

I think it would be a good time to have a discussion in the court about how to have discussion and to discuss what standards we hold ourselves to during these discussions. I hope this will also help with the recent negative attitudes some of us have been exhibiting during recent debates.

So what does being a Debate Vampire mean? To sum it up in one sentence. Being a Debate Vampire means providing clear, concise, logical arguments backed by evidence.

But let's unpack that a bit and also expand it to include how we treat others during debates. We should be clear, avoiding confusion. As for treating others we must make sure that we are understanding clearly what they are saying, we must also give others the benefit of the doubt. For example if I were to say that I think our government could emphasize personal liberty more it would not be giving me the benefit of the doubt to say "Oh well then you just support total anarchy don't you?" We should always give the other person the benefit of the doubt that they are making an argument for the best reasons, so if someone says to me that they believe in once saved, always saved I should not then say "Oh you just believe we're robots that have no meaning in life."

Concise, no walls of texts, no unnecessary words. Keep things simple.

Finally evidence, despite what I did above Wikipedia is not a good source for controversial or disputed facts. Good evidence has two main parts. Credible Author: Does the person who wrote your evidence know what she’s talking about? Does she have a degree in what she’s talking about? Did she conduct research into the subject or is she just giving her opinion? Reliable and Reputable source: Does this newspaper, magazine, website, think tank, or university have a good reputation for accuracy and factual information?

Anyway, please discuss these points and then we can expand to other points, specifically I think about how we can treat others during discussions.
