Anyone doing it this year? I ammm. I just... need to overcome and not succumb to my laziness. heh.

I always prepare plots by creating the plot, and then characters and figuring out what their relationship to their world and each other are. This process includes writing blurbs of scenes that may or may not end up book-canon.

What do you do to prepare? Or do you prepare at all? Are you more of a freewriter? Discuss.

Also, for your enjoyment or boredom, a potentially canon blurb ;D

"You're always here, aren't you?" She asked, already knowing the answer.
"Maybe." He smirked, leaning back against the cool, brick wall. "What's it to you?"
She rolled her eyes, a hint of a grin on her cherry colored lips. He was always like this; sarcastic, annoying -- Yet, he had become her closest, perhaps only friend in the world. He was nothing like they whispered during math class. Nothing like the graffitti in the restroom stalls, or the rumors that spread throughout the busy, school halls. Behind the rough leather and messy hair was a lost kid looking for hope. Not a jailbird or drug addict. Just a kitten in a lion's body.
She smiled to herself; yes. That description fit him perfectly.

Voilà. =p

Wow, Sam. I can't even imagine taking on something like this. 50,000 words is a lot. O.o That's an interesting writing process that you use. Do you basically decide what each character's place in the story is before you write the whole novel?

I hope the writing goes well for you. And I'm anticipating you not posting here much during November. =p

Sure, why not. I'll try my best. I would be blown away if I could do it, though.

Doctor, you should write a book about vampires. It'd be very debatable. *hides*

TS, it actually isn't all that much when you break it down. 2000 words a day for 30 days would put you 10,000 words over the top, and for those who both work and gain entertainment from the Internet, we generally write more than that every day. The problem is creating a world/theme to stick to and making every word align with certain actions and events.
And I do create my stories that way. I create the plot *idea* first -- which you would know as a writing prompt. But then I create the characters, and create the plot AROUND those characters. It makes it much easier and much more realistic that way. Instead of being stuck in a plot box and having to work characters within it, I can make them human, thinking outside the box, and then create the plot to "how would these characters act in this situation/how would this situation affect them?" rather than "how am I supposed to make these characters work in this event??" it's less limited in my mind. =p

Metal and MRWE, do itttttt. =p

I did it last year for the first time. Not sure if I'll do it this year--it didn't really work out for me. I got to 50,000 words, but just plunging forward resulted in a rather nonsensical story. 50,000 words that I won't use. :( Perhaps because I didn't plan--but I tend not to plan too much. I have the general idea, setting and characters, and then start writing. If I start to plan, I get bogged down for years. There's probably a way to get around that.... I work best when I have an idea that sparks in my mind, characters that have to confront a basic situation, then start writing, letting it take me from one situation to the next and seeing how the characters react. And posting on fictionpress.com helps me, because posting one chapter before I go on to the next helps me see what I've already written, and people's views and reviews help me go forward, knowing that someone is reading it and liking it.

I tend to stick with certain characters and worlds that I like and create long sagas. Or plan them anyway. I haven't gotten past the first book since the second one needs to not only live up to the first one, but exceed it, and so I start to plan, and the planning goes in circles and I start second guessing what I'm writing..... I like to write and I'm tired of getting nowhere so maybe I should just start writing and see where it takes me. I have a lot of Ideas in my computer files... maybe I have enough material by now.....

I might do Nano, at least as an excuse to start my next novel.

My older sister did it last year and her story was amazing. I wonder if she'll do it again this year.

There is a website called nanowrimo and it is short for National somethin' or other Writing Month. It is a challenge to see if you can write a book in one month. To be particular, November, I think. I don't remember anything else about it.
