Yes, the people over at ERK are quite rude and don't take the time to welcome their members. I don't hold it against them, it's just the way they are. At ESK, on the other hand, we welcome our members warmly!

I'm gunna swift kick you, Mr. Thinker. Oh, and sorry, AfterShocker, I must admit...I am always quite late at greeting and welcoming people (Much to Mr. Thinker's delight) but, we do appreciate you--very much! You are a nice addition to the E.R.K, and I'm extremely pleased to have you as a part of the club. I think with you around, it will be a bit easier to overthrow the E.S.K, as well as all these other ridiculous groups.
Downnn with the Emily-hater's!

I see you'll be a tough nut to crack, Aftershocker.
I'm just kidding as always.
And though the ERK klub is misguided and morally wrong, I believe the members are nice people with good intentions who just don't understand basic character flaws. You're welcome to join ERk, AS, but just remember: the bad guys never win. Do you want to be on the winners side or the losers side?

This is a bit crazy.
Listen, I'm not joining either side, nor any club. Because my opinion is that AIO finally has another developing character, similar to Jay and Grady. Somewhat stuck up, she's going on a journey. She's learning. When Emily was first around, someone decided they hated her, and started a big uproar about it. Emily is learning, she is developing, she is progressing. She doesn't quite rule, but she doesn't quite stink, she's not awesome, she's not horrible. I think we should just enjoy Emily as a character, not as someone to argue over. You guys aren't open to liking her, because you've already done this. Emily is a nice, but sometimes mean girl, who is trying to figure out things, and, with all her faults, you, or at least I, can't help liking her. Because she's like me. Emily has struggles, she's real. With her ups and her downs, she has somewhat of a reality to her.
That's all I have to say. Just because a character has faults, just like everyone on this earth, doesn't mean we have to hate on her. And I'm not saying she's not a bit annoying sometimes, but she's not a black and white character. Which I like.
I am an unofficial member of both E.S.K, and E.R.K. I will be involved in arguments on both sides.

It's good to see you here, Joy! It is crazy. It didn't start out this way, though.
We had several neat, tidy Emily debating topics, in which multiple parties expressed themselves heroically. Then, Pound Foolish came along and made his club, effectively throwing this whole Character forum into chaos. Everyone pretty much got tired of debating the whole topic again and again, and now we have these crazy threads, and we can express ourselves in a much more clear way!
Believe me, I would love it if Emily was a developing character. The problem is, she lacks development. I see no improvement in her impulsiveness, defensiveness, and a****ingness. Unfortunately, I do not see a clear walk with Christ in her. Now, if she began making small, incremental improvements, growing episode by episode, and reinforcing the overall theme of the episode, then I would accept her as a valid, concrete character.
Until then, we will mock her a****ing-ness.
You have a good perspective on her character. Please share it in one of the Emily threads.

I do believe there is some development, but slowly. You don't change instantly you know. I sure haven't. I haven't changed that much. And I'm the same as Emily. I try to, but sometimes I just can't.

Joy, I completely agree that we don't change instantly. That's an important fact that many forget. It's a slow process of purification through the trials of life here on earth.
However, the laws of life do not necessarily apply to a radio drama. While they should strive towards staying true to life, they are not bound, and should not follow, the general times and patterns of life.
Emily has not been making consistent, observable progress. On the contrary, she has been both a whirlwind and a stagnant pond simultaneously. As the creators of the show, the show writers should make their intentions as clear as possible in these cases. Throwing us for a loop is a great twist for part A and B episodes, and possibly even entire albums. However, to give us a mediocre, confused, muddled character in this business is to give us a bad character. If we as listeners are not getting the loud and clear message that Emily is growing in her faith and applying the lessons she has learned, then the writers have failed to convince us that the moral stance of the episodes are worth applying to ourselves. That is the flat truth. Until I am convinced that Emily is applying and growing, then I have no motivation to do the same.
As soon as Emily starts making consistent progress, not in leaps and bounds, but in small incremental steps, she is not worth listening to.
My primary concern as of now is that the writers will 'magically' make Emily a better character. This is no better off than before, because Emily is still not growing. She has suddenly been replaced with a more mature version of herself.
Although Emily currently is in a deep hole, AiO could use this to her advantage. In the parable of the forgiven debts, Jesus used the analogy of a man who owed great sums and a man who owed paltry change. When the master forgave the debts, the heavier debtor was far more grateful.
In the same way, Emily is a character far from ideal. However, if AiO makes their intentions clear, they could use this to make us all the more appreciate her progress.
Until they make her a clearer, more identifiable character, my stance will remain constant.

I guess you're right. Thanks for some clarification.
And CT, being mean, and sometimes nice is a possible. You know how sometimes you can be really nice, but to certain people, you can be horrible to? Or when something is bugging you, making you mad, you take it out on other people? You can be nice and mean. It just takes grace to be nice most of the time.

I'd also agree with that. Emily has been known to be pleasant on certain occasions.

Her pleasantness is fake. She is pleasant around adults, because it's an obligation for most children to be pleasant and polite around superiors, and she's pleasant around Buck, because she has an adolocent crush on him, and therefore wants to impress him. Her pleasant nature is forced and unreal, making her an irritable, unlikeable character at heart.

I would like to ask any mod reading this to lock the topic temporarily. I just think this war has gone on long enough, and it seems to be going nowhere. I'd still like to keep my topic as a keepsake, but I hope to end this Emily war formally. It was fun for a while, but it was getting quite boring and pointless, and no one seems to care much anymore. (Including me) Eventually, someone might reboot this topic, and we would get into another insult fest and obsession over hating/loving Emily. I don't really want that to happen, so I would appreciate it if a mod could end the ESK as soon as possible. I just think this has dragged on too long. If anyone disagrees with me, feel free to state your viewpoint.

Dearie me! Well... I won't lock it. This is too fun! If you find it dull now, Mr. Thinker, you could pass on the torch of leadership to horrible Whittifer, or horrible Wooton. However, I'm overjoyed to hear you're tired of fighting against Emily, Mr. Thinker! Huzzah. (This isn't to say I'm against one of the other mods getting rid of it, if they choose... except you, Godsgirl. Getting rid of it would be eliminated a pet-peeve more than making a careful, smart decision in your case.

What? Oh my wordyyyy! Your resigning? I don't know if I should be sad, or dancing with happiness! But goodness, I knew the Emily-haters would give-in first. They just don't possess the strength, nor the maturity to continue the fight! (Just kidding, Mr. Thinker.) Anyways, I'm kind'a with Pound Foolish here...and while I'm at it, *high five, dear*
