It's OK. At this point I consider it a part of who I am and a normal health thing I have to deal with. Like getting a months-long cold every year or something.

I sit in front of a happy light every day, and I make an effort to dress well and do my makeup because that makes me feel more like a normal human and less like a pile of pillow fluff. There are also supplements I take that sorta help but actually taking them is a struggle for me so it's sort of a toss-up there, lol.

Also taking time to watch my favorite TV shows and do something creative once in awhile helps lift my spirits a little.

Oh I am glad you have some techniques! Is it a seasonal thing then? (sorry for being so nosy but there is a lot of depression in my family so it is a point of interest for me but you don't have to reply)

Both. I struggle with depression year-round but in the winter months when the sun goes into hiding are the worst of it. I also have anxiety so that compounds the problem. You aren't nosy! I am open about my mental health stuff. There is a lot of stigma surrounding mental health issues so I like to be as open and honest about it as I can to help people understand it and recognize it isn't anything to be ashamed of.

I have anxiety too. I take medication for it and go to counseling, it is not really very evident right now but it was real bad in the summer.

What is your favourite flavour of jam?

I'm not a huge fan of jam. I prefer jelly. Grape jelly, to be specific.

Well I'm gluten free so I can't have bread anymore.

But my all-time fav bread was this sweet Challah bread we used to make for Friday night dinners in our house. It. Was. The. Best. Ever.

I would. She actually already has some colored lip gloss of her own that she loves. And whenever I'm doing my makeup she always asks if she can do some, too, so I will usually dab a little blush on her or do some eyeshadow or something. I love makeup and don't see any reason to keep her from it. As long as I am modeling a healthy approach to it -- as something fun to do to express yourself -- and not from the standpoint of trying to conform to normative beauty standards or something, then I think it's OK. I also certainly don't wear makeup every day (maybe like only half the time) so I think that helps, too, if she sees I am comfortable in my own skin without makeup.

I agree! It was a great example to me growing up that my mom rarely wore makeup, and was confident how she was, which is how I am.

How did you get started doing journalism?

Have you been to college?

In college! I originally started college thinking I wanted to do photojournalism. Then I realized that photojournalists basically don't exist in that role anymore and instead, you have to be able to report, write, edit, take photos, record audio, produce videos and podcasts, etc ... so I started learning all of that and I really just fell in love with the journalism in a more broad sense rather than just taking pictures.

I have an associate's degree and a bachelor's.

Well I took a few college classes when I was 16/17. But I officially started the fall I turned 19.

Yes. I used to hang out there all the time long before all of your time on the ToO/SS. I also sometimes pop in nowadays but it's usually pretty quiet.
