I generally make curries when I'm cooking vegan food. Thai food with tofu is pretty good if I'm eating out. I also really like this Vietnamese dish, lemongrass tofu in a clay pot. I generally stay away from stuff like vegan cheese or vegan burgers or "chicken" I generally don't care for them and when I'm eating vegan it has a spiritual element to it and I feel like I'm cheating if I do those things.
wow, what's so bad about this Queen? I need to make sure I don't say anything nice about her when I'm up in Canada.

What kinds of things make you feel grateful to God?
Do you ever get this overwhelming breathtaking awed feeling at how wonderful God is? If so what kinds of things spark such a feeling?
Has God ever answered a prayer in of yours in a really special way? Has He ever done something to remind you how much He really cares about you? Give an example.
I know these are kind of hard questions. Hope you dont mind!

What is the difference between Catholic and Orthodox? I feel like you have explained this before, but I can't find it anywhere.

Friends who support me in my faith. Taking the Eucharist. Praying. Being in the Liturgy.Mandy wrote:What kinds of things make you feel grateful to God?
I've had that feeling once, the first time I walked into my current parish. The icons, incense, and chanting made me feel that way.Mandy wrote:Do you ever get this overwhelming breathtaking awed feeling at how wonderful God is? If so what kinds of things spark such a feeling?
I don't know if this was a prayer being answered or more just God knowing what's best for me, meaning He cares. But when I figured out I wasn't a Christian in college I left, if I had stayed the entire time it probably would have really soured me to Christianity and I would never have come back. But it was also important for me to have been at my college for a short time because it was a friend from there that brought me to church.Mandy wrote:Has God ever answered a prayer in of yours in a really special way? Probably a nice white, something sweet.Miss Friendship wrote:What kind of wine are you going to have me try first?
Well the first and biggest would be the Pope. Eastern Orthodox does have a hierarchy but no one person is the supreme ruler of the Church. Most countries that have Orthodox populations have what's called a synod of bishops, essentially all of the bishops in a country. This synod deals with ecclesiastical issues and guide the Orthodox Church in that country. We share the same faith and beliefs but the flavor, for lack of a better term, varies from country to country; most often in style of music and hymnography.aragtaghooligan wrote:What is the difference between Catholic and Orthodox? We also have a different canon of Scripture having 78 books in the Bible versus the Catholics 71 and the Protestants 66.
On the doctrines of original sin and substitutionary atonement we would disagree with both the Catholic and Protestant view on both of those.
On a specifically Catholic doctrine we do not believe in the immaculate conception of Mary.
Our priests unlike Catholic ones can be married.
One of the biggest doctrines during the Schism of the East and West was the Filioque. The part of the Nicean Creed that says "And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father." Was later changed by the West to say "And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son." The Protestants left the change in during the Reformation. The Eastern Church kept the original.
There are many other differences, if there are any specific practices or doctrines you may ask me about them specifically.

So do you not believe humanity has an inherently sinful nature?

I have had pho before, it was quite good. Here in DC and Northern Virginia we have a large Asian population so plenty of opportunities to try different cuisines.
I believe that humanity has an inherently good nature, after all we are made by God and God does not make sinful or evil things.

So wait, Catholics would disagree with you and think humans are inherently sinful?
Do you think everyone sins?
What do you think the role of Adam and Eve's sin is?
Are things like child birth pain and natural disasters a punishment for original sin?
What do EOs believe about substitutionary atonement in juxtaposition with what Catholics believe?

To the best of my understanding yes, they would say original sin changed our nature. Hence the need for the immaculate conception.aragtaghooligan wrote:So wait, Catholics would disagree with you and think humans are inherently sinful?

I think that they brought sin and death into the world and we are living with the consequences of that. We are not guilty or being punished for their sins.aragtaghooligan wrote:What do you think the role of Adam and Eve's sin is? That it doesn't exist. We don't think that God can be compelled to pay a ransom He owes Himself by hurting Himself. This video does a good job of explaining the Orthodox view: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZrsbCK5Hrgaragtaghooligan wrote:What do EOs believe about substitutionary atonement in juxtaposition with what Catholics believe?

Nope, always used a can opener.Miss Friendship wrote:Have you ever opened a can without a can opener? #RandomQuestion
Yes, very much so, especially all my friends. It will be very hard living without them for a year.Miss Friendship wrote:Aren't you going to miss DC life and VA even though you pretend you won't?#PersonalIntrustiveQuestion
It all depends on what is needed, a shorter quote can sometimes be all that is needed and to add more would make the debate needlessly wordy. Other times when dealing with a complex issue more clarity and context is needed.Miss Friendship wrote:In a debate, are short to the point answers better, or long winded articles? #o_0

Yes, I've had that commented on many times. Especially at a younger age.

Are you aware of who won the Canadian election? Do you have an opinion on it?

Is Valentine a Catholic saint?
How was your week?
Should everyone go to college?

You, Blitz, and Spoon
I don't know, I haven't read much about love languages
The doctrine that makes the most sense to me is Salvation, Justification, and Sanctification being one ongoing process that ends in Theosis.
I am, I don't think he'll be good for Canada but I'm not sure who would have been better, at least Harper is gone.aragtaghooligan wrote:Are you aware of who won the Canadian election? Do you have an opinion on it?

St. Valentine is a pre-schism Saint which means that all the high churches, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran venerate him.Isaiah the Ox wrote:Is Valentine a Catholic saint?

My week was okay.
No, not everyone should go to college. There are lots of educational choices out there that don't include college.
