Eleventh Doctor Q&A
I was wondering what your testimony was... I've heard a few other people say something similar about the Orthodox Church, about feeling the Holy Spirit in the congregation, that is.
It seems like the perpetual virginity of Mary doesn't fit to the Bible. How do you translate/understand such verses as: Matthew 1:25, Matthew 13:55, Matthew 12:46, and John 2:12. I know you have the tradition argument (and, I believe, even Calvin and Luther accepted Mary's perpetual virginity), but as a Protestant, I want to see how the Bible fits in. I would prefer in your own words, but an article is okay, too, I guess.

Calvin and Luther did accept Mary's perpetual virginity. As for those verses, there are several ways to explain that; the word for brother being the same as cousin or Joseph being an older widower who had children from a previous marriage. As for Joseph and Mary having sex afterwards, that just makes no sense to me. I don't see how Joseph as a God fearing Jew who understood on any level that Jesus Christ the Son of God was conceived through Mary would then basically say "Well I guess it's my turn now."
Most of that is argument from tradition though but tradition is mostly about interpreting the Bible.

Thanks for sharing! That's a super awesome story. And I'm curious to check out that Keller book now.

The biggest difference from the faith I was raised in is the emphasis on multiple forms of divine inspiration be it Apostolic Tradition or the Seven Ecumenical Councils and related is the emphasis on mystical revelation and direct interaction with God to confirm that inspiration.

Do you ever worry about the fact that you were basically converted by a sensory experience? That's why I left pentecostal like churches because it was all about sensory experiences and although I think it is good to acknowledge the work of The Holy Spirit, I want something deeper, more real, and strong, and firm. I mean I get that the Orthodox church is nothing like a Pentecostal one but when you read about your first experience there it makes me wonder. At the same hand my favourite pastor says that true conversion is not won in a reasonable battle but by an encounter with God. I'm not sure what I think. What do you think?
I haven't been around much due to school but no one seems to have noticed, do you think anyone will miss me?

I can understand your concerns and I share them. But what first drew me to Orthodoxy was the sense of history and the focus on the Eucharist, my encounter with God was more than just a sensory experience but that just confirmed for me what I had intellectually thought of Orthodoxy. And even after that experience I tested Orthodoxy intellectually. So it wasn't an either or thing.

How likely is that?
That was me. I even came on as Reg for awhile this evening. OxR figured me out. *sigh*
Do you have a Twitter app on your phone?
Did you do anything special today besides going to Church?
Did DB's thing make you upset or just riled? (Or is that the same thing?)

I played D&D with my friends
It did upset me a bit but more disappointed that he has misconceptions about Orthodoxy.

My group meets after church on Sunday to play D&D
Well if we went by what you think are connected to the occult I'd have to sit in a dark room listening to a cappella groups, as long as there's no beat boxing, playing checkers.

Yeah I am really learning its not an either or thing or it shouldn't be but so much of my relationship with god isn't that its me studying him and not being with him n I need to change that. Thanks for sharing your story.

I would be ecstatic, Sixth Doctor/JJJJ and I have a running discussion on who we want cast as the female Doctor.
