I knew Sixth when I was an atheist but we didn't really become friends until after I became a Christian. He doesn't care for the debates we're having now. My sister is engaged, in school, and working so she doesn't have time to post. I believe it was this thread on prison reform: http://www.odysseyscoop.com/forum/viewt ... =24&t=1531
I do believe the Bible means what it says, I just come to different conclusions about what it's saying. I want to clarify that even when I disagree with you I'm not saying the Bible is untrue I'm saying I interpret it differently than you. So with God's wrath, as the article I sent you says God's wrath is not the same as our wrath, anymore than God's love is like our love. As I've said what we experience as wrath, and that is the best way this experience can be communicated to us, is God's love towards those with sin. I think it's an important distinction to be made.
Not at all, I am a big fan of C.S. Lewis for example. I've recently been reading Henri Nouwen who is a Catholic theologian. I am familiar with Calvin and Luther's writings, as well as some of the Puritans. Because those were part of my background as a Reformed Protestant. Wesley and Spurgeon are part of the Armenian/Anabaptist tradition that I was never a part of, I just never had the occasion to read about them. I have heard of them, as in I know they exist and were traveling preachers during one of the Great Awakenings I think. I know of William Booth and the Salvation Army. Do you know of St. John of Kronstadt or St. Seraphim of Sarov?
I believe I am part of the historic Church and so confirming the teachings they received from Christ and the Apostles is the main way in which I figure out my theology. After all it's either them or just myself or people later so why not go back to the source?
I have no idea
I use both
Sounds nice but getting wet is no fun

have you ever gotten wet in the rain on purpose though? When I was a kid I had no swimming pool so sometimes in the rain my mom would let us put our bathing suits on and run around in the rain, but I don't like to get wet in my clothes.

Is that a compliment?Isaiah the Ox wrote:I'm sorry MF...but your questions are about as rude as mine are on your thread!
I'm not sure why I keep answering questions on your thread, but anyhow. No, I haven't heard of them. I guess I know more great Protestant men of the past than Orthodox.Eleventh Doctor wrote:Do you know of St. John of Kronstadt or St. Seraphim of Sarov?
Anabaptist? I don't think so. Wesley would have started the Methodist Church, and Spurgeon, well I think he had some Calvinist beliefs.Eleventh Doctor wrote:Wesley and Spurgeon are part of the Armenian/Anabaptist tradition

I do know some Protestant theologians but I'm missing your point. Is it that I should read more Protestants or?

Do you enjoy writing? If so, what kind of things?
Would you like to write a book someday?

I do enjoy writing, I mostly do world building for RPG campaigns that I run but I've also written a couple fantasy shorts. I would love to write a book someday but I don't know if I'll ever have the discipline.

OOoh. That's cool.
Even if they are Methodist/etc, they are still Reformed church's, while Eleventh's church is not part of the Reformation, even though, I'm guessing it made changes during that period as well. However, Anabaptists are "Un-Reformed" churches, sooo...

During the 1500s? I can't think of too many significant changes during that time period, we were under the Turks at that point so mostly trying to survive. Also Anabaptist are part of the Reformation too.

Okay, I didn't know. I know during the Reformation the Catholic church went through some changes, or reflections, or something, but I didn't know about the Orthodox church. What I meant by "un-Reformed" was that many/some anabaptists went back to some beliefs that Catholics/Orthodox hold. For example, most/some Mennonite and Amish theology is decided upon by the Bishop of the church. So, many church's can be completely different in theology, it depends on what Bishop they have. This, is sort of, not exactly, similar to Catholic/Orthodox tradition, but it is different, of course.

Reformed can mean to go back to earlier beliefs as well, I don't actually see many of those beliefs in the Mennonite or Amish theology but I can see the intent. During the Reformation the Catholics went through a reaction to the Protestants that affected their own theology but the Orthodox were largely unaware of what was going on, beyond a few letters the Lutherans sent to the Patriarch of Constantinople.

Do you like doughnuts?
What food do you dislike?
Do you enjoy flying? How many times have you flown in your life?
Also, the Catholics had to change some as they aren't killing Anabaptists anymore.

I like doughnuts but don't eat them
Most vegetables
I hate flying, my biggest fear and dislike. I've flown 30 plus times.
I was more referring to theological changes

Holy moly! That's a lot of flying I've only been in a plane 3 times and they were all small. I liked it though.

I don't care for onions most of the time but I might add them to some things. I do like butternut squash though.
