Also I don't think Jesus would be pleased at how the majority celebrate his so called "birthday" I mean think about it! Who do they give presents too? Each other, not Jesus.

I agree, the commercialization of Christmas is bad. To clarify though, are you against the non-gift giving parts of Christmas?

Well maybe I was more thinking of just all the greed and tons of money spent every year non presents alone. Take that money and you could wipe out starvation in other countries. Take a look at the statistics.

And Black Friday...talk about greedy Americans going bizerk...but I guess that would have to do with Thanksgiving. Maybe I am thinking of the holiday months in general.

Also many Americans only go to church twice a year. Easter and Christmas. I wonder what Jesus thinks about that. How would you feel if people who claimed to serve you only made an effort to let you know twice a year. (Not saying this is you, just America in general at the time of the holidays)

Your sarcasm is wasted on me. The ring is jewelry which the scripture bans, I would never wear the dresses brides wear today, and a wedding can be simple...the traditions aren't neccesary.

True. Vanity is its point, but it mentions specifically the wearing of gold jewelry...so... Maybe its not "evil" so much as it isn't "wise"

*blink* You're not going to march down the aisle? You're not going to have flowers at your wedding? You're not going to wear a dress? Doubt it.

Even if you're wearing a dress different from a lot of modern day wedding fashions, you'll probably still do all the above.

You can still have a simple wedding, that's a lovely idea. (I'm such an easy going guy. Look at me, I'm not telling you how to plan your wedding!) But you'll likely have those elements.

And certainly you're not saying all traditions are wrong. It's just a metaphor. A sarcastic one as you noted.

How is wearing wedding ring unwise? What possible harm can it cause? It's a symbol of purity and commitment. In theory you could be vain of it just like you can be vain of pretty much anything but it's not necessarily likely.

It isn't on the safe side to take scripture lightly...so its wise to take it seriously.
