You are allowed to use the slippery slope, if you can provide a compelling argument for each point down the slope. I couldn't for example say that if a doctor doesn't provide extreme care for an infant every single time then next week he'll be euthanizing the elderly. But I could as your friend Ben did say that the sanctity of life is of paramount importance and if we start chipping away at the edges then we begin weakening the whole.
Also I think it comes down to an argument of does life have an intrinsic worth? Is there something about life itself that is valuable? If that is the case then should the assumption be that life is to be the default and that there would need to be extremely compelling arguments to go the other way?
As for the mercy killing, we don't let individuals make decisions like that because of the possibility of abuse. What if the father's motives were not concern for his child but exasperation at the burden she placed on him? Even if the father's motives were concern what level of concern justifies ending the life? And is it completely up to the father? What if the child was more aware and had not expressed a desire to die but the father decided he knew best? If your classmates say that it's different because the child in the example wasn't mentally aware then you have to ask if life has a constant value or is solely dependent on quality of life and that opens up a whole can of worms.

I guess I would reframe the question and say what about old people or people with terminal conditions, should they be allowed to hurried to death?
I would mostly bring it back to a devaluing of life.

I know who you are.
The simple facts are your name, age, appearance, and geographic location. These are all things which affect who you are and how you understand the world and are understood by it.
You are also God's son. He loves you and is shaping you and helping you grow. You are made in His image and he is bringing that out in you more and more every day.
You are also a well loved brother, son, cousin, nephew, offline and online friend.
I know you feel wonky and confuzzled about what is next, but don't forget these things of where you have already come and what you already are.

Thank for grounding me Ragtag. When I deprecate myself too much I know I can always count on you to help me.

If you could eliminate one things from your life today, what would it be?
What impact do you want to leave in the world?
What do you want to be remembered by?
What does success mean to you?
What has been the greatest adventure of your life?
Where do you go and what do you do to wind down/relax?

Greatest adventure, when I was 12 I navigated a van with extended family (grandparents, aunts, and uncles) from England to Germany.
I usually play video games to unwind
I would not, I do not like hospitals.Blitz wrote:Would you get an MD?

Are you bored and lonely without MF to argue with and ask you questions? Where would you rather be? What would you rather be doing? How was your day? How was church? why don't you like hospitals?

What do you think of Pound Foolish's God and good argument? 0_o
What is a patron Saint?
Are Godparents something Orthodox do, and what does it mean?
Could you explain what the Icons are/do? I thought it was just a way to worship, like, you can worship through singing, so why can't you worship through images...but I was listening to an Orthodox who said they save you or something, and I got confused... 0_o

MF and I are still in touch.aragtaghooligan wrote:Are you bored and lonely without MF to argue with and ask you questions? Where would you rather be? What would you rather be doing? How was your day? How was church? why don't you like hospitals?
I'm fine with where I am and what I'm doing.
My day was rather chaotic. I set my alarm incorrectly so I woke up at 945 to a phone call from the person I was suppose to meet at 930 to give a ride to. Today was also the church picnic and I was suppose to get there early to set up but that didn't happen. I drove fast and made it just a little bit late and then learned I was suppose to cook all the food so I cooked 140 hotdogs and 80 hamburgers. Then I got to hang out with people which was fun. Then as I was leaving a friend in DC invited me over for random movie and bread pudding so I did that and that was a ton of fun. So overall a pretty good if somewhat chaotic day.
I don't like sickness and death.
I agree that God is the source of all good.Isaiah the Ox wrote:What do you think of Pound Foolish's God and good argument? 0_o

A patron Saint is a specific Saint that you identify with especially and with whom you have a special relationship with for intercessory prayer.
Godparents are a tradition in my cultures and religions, traditionally it meant that if your own parents died your godparents would take you in and raise you. In many Orthodox circles this is still the case but it has also taken on spiritual dimensions of coming along your biological parents to help raise you spiritually.
Who was this Orthodox? Because icons do not save you. Icons are focuses for worship, as you said, they are physical representations of the spiritual reality that those in the icons are with us.

Do you grill a certain way? Like do you have a specific technique or do you use any special seasonings?

Today I just grilled what they gave me. I put all the patties on the grill and rotated them through the hot spot of the grill until they were done.

Did MF keep in touch with you much? Because we both agreed it was cheating on her fast to debate with you on Twitter. If she kept doing it... She's going to hear from me.
What is the exact date you will be leaving to SS? Or do you know?
What do you think of the new rule that the admins made about mass question posting?
Will you be allowed to play video games when you're at that place in Canada? Will you go into withdrawal if you can't?
Are you glad MF and I weren't disappearing forever?

We weren't debating, just chatting.
May of 2016, nothing beyond that.
I helped develop the new rule and am happy with it
Not sure, I won't go into withdraw though
Yes, very glad
