Well first up Sola scriptura, as we have discussed I agree that Scripture is a source of authority but not the only and not even the highest.
Sola fide, my main problem with this centers on the made justified vs declared justified distinction that Luther made, he basically said that we are declared justified by faith alone where as I would say that we are made justified through the receiving of God's grace in the sacraments.
Sola gratia, is probably the least objectionable of the solas but when put into practice it often denies the synergistic nature of our relationship with God.
Solus Christus, denies the need for a priesthood or the need for Apostolic Succession, it also claims that veneration of the Saints and the Theotokos is wrong. So yeah, not really liking this one.
Soli Deo gloria is pretty much the same thing with more of an emphasis on being anti-Saints.

Would I need someone at your church to help me to know when to sing, to sit (if you have seats), to stand, to partake in communion (even though I can't)? Just wondering...

It would probably help to read this: http://frederica.com/12-things/ We have service books you could follow along with that tell you when to sing. We do have pews but most Orthodox churches don't. But yeah, it is closed communion.

All you said on the Sola's was... expected.
If the Reformation hadn't come, do you realize that millions of Christians wouldn't exist? And who knows, maybe the Catholic Church would still be in control. I am not sure how you can take so lightly the revival that came with the Reformers. Yes, damage, but I think the awakening and stirring they brought to a culture where Religion equaled rituals, fear and works far outweighed the wrong doctrine they promoted. How do you reconcile all this?
Have you studied any of the lives of the Protestant Reformers as much as the Early Christians or EO's?
0_o I don't think I want to visit an Orthodox Church if a bunch of random people would kiss me. What do you think about that, Ox?Eleventh Doctor wrote:It would probably help to read this: http://frederica.com/12-things/

That's not true of every Orthodox church, not mine and actually not of the authors church either.
I don't understand why millions of Christians wouldn't exist, why do you say that?
I think that revival is pointless if it failed to reform the original target, the Roman Catholic church. Protestants corrected some of the bad teachings, but they kept more than they might realize, and they introduced new ones as well.
More so than the Early Christians and EO. I was a Protestant for 20 years after all, I've only been EO for 5 years. I know about the Reformation.

Think of all the different demoniantions under the Protestants. Erase all those groups today and yeah, that would be a huge difference.
Revival is never pointless. Souls matter a great deal more than any one demonination. And if the RC wouldn't conform, it would be better move on from that system.

So, you can't even respect them for actually testing everything? Was it such a horrible sin that they questioned what the Church taught, rather than saying "The Priest says the Church always did this!"?
I'm guessing you think you are superior to Catholics, too?
The Catholics and Orthodox split up...why don't you hate all EOs?
Other than the Bible, what is the earliest writing that describes the Church doing what the EO Church currently does?

Revival for revival sake is pointless, it has to be true. I think it would have been better if Luther had actually reformed the church like he originally planned.
I'm currently reading On the Incarnation by St Athanasius, I also just finished Strong Poison by Dorothy Sayers.
That's a false dichotomy, I never said they should do it because the priest says this is the way. I can respect their questioning things but I can also say they came to wrong conclusions.Isaiah the Ox wrote:So, you can't even respect them for actually testing everything? There's the Liturgy of St. James written in 60 AD: http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0717.htm There's the Didache: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04779a.htm this was written in the Early First century. There's also the writings of St. Ignatius of Antioch, you should check him out.Isaiah the Ox wrote:Other than the Bible, what is the earliest writing that describes the Church doing what the EO Church currently does?

Did you join the SS to make friends or debate?
First actual "friend" you made on the ToO?
Will you ever use this smile:
?
You strike me as a very punctual person as one of your pet peeves is people being late. What is the latest you have ever arrived somewhere?

I specifically joined the SS to debate. Some of the users here had been coming over to the ToO and telling us how SS was so much better. So one day Sixth Doctor and I decided to come here and see how many debates we could start.
That would probably be Sixth Doctor, we talk on Facebook pretty much every day now and I really don't have that level of communication with anyone else.
If I have a need.
I once woke up late and hit traffic and arrived at church as it was ending.

So do you still enjoy the SS without as many debates right now? (Of course, as long as we keep this thread active)
Did you know Sixth before the ToO? 0_o What is his name there?

That's good. At least we are not all debate robots to you.
Was he an atheist when he joined the ToO? And have you met him IRL?
Why did your Twitter followers go from 100 to 99? Do some people change their mind about you?

Was he ever a Christian? Or grow up in a Christian home?
Did he ever use the Chat? If so, you should have him get on sometime.
