Is that supposed to be a Biblical argument against saying "Gosh", Mr. Yorp, or are you just making a general post?

Why do you think those words exist at all, then?

Why do you need a bunch of different words that all mean the same thing to profane the name of the Lord?

Because "Gosh" is a euphemism. I'm guessing you don't believe in euphemisms. That's okay, but what you're basically saying is that "gosh" and "God" mean exactly the same thing, and, according to the dictionary, they don't.

They do. But the main thing is not to say it at all.

They do mean the same thing? Sweet. Gosh loves you, Mr. Yorp. Gosh's not dead. I hate it when people bow down to false goshes.

The whole reason why saying "Oh my God" is a sinful thing is because it's God's name that you're using to express some trivial annoyance. "Gosh" isn't His name, at least not in English. Thus, it's just a meaningless word.

The thing about "gosh" and other euphemisms is that they don't even sound like the word they were originally supposed to stand in for; the "sh" sound is very distinctive from the "d" sound, in case anyone was unclear on that. ;) If you don't want to say "oh my gosh", fine, but to claim that "gosh" and "God" are the same thing is just ignorant.
it's not about 'deserve'. it's about what you believe. and i believe in love

Look at the etymology.

(euphemistic) A mild expression of surprise or enthusiasm as to be put in place of “God”, particularly in fear of saying the Lord’s name in vain.

That's the etymology. That was what the word was made for, and what it's still being used for today. If you don't like it, that's fine, but don't argue with it.

So I can just arbitrarily invent a word right now and say it means God, or perhaps use an existing one? Today I decree that the word "Devil" actually means "God"! What you're saying simply makes no sense, and you're not addressing any of my points directly. Why is gosh a swear word, Mr. Yorp?
