Jerry Buried in Odyssey?

Post

In The Very Best of Friends, when asked where Jerry was now, Whit said the same place as Karen and he had catching up to do too. I find that a little confusing. Did they fly the body back to the states? I don't recall any info about that.

Hmm. I don't know. You could email AIO and Ask.

Well, it's possible that he was referring to heaven when he said, "in the same place Karen is", not the actual grave site. And Whit wouldn't have to visit the grave to catch up with his son, he would just need to pray.

It would make sense that they did fly it back. I don't see a reason why they wouldn't. I watched a movie - Taking Chance (I don't recommend it to people who don't want to cry.) In that movie, they flew the guys body back, and another solider escorted it, and every time the casket was moved, the solider was out there, giving him a salute for respect.

Well, they moved to Odyssey right after Jerry died. I always thought Jerry was buried in Odyssey. Knowing the kind of people they were, they wouldn't leave his body back in Vietnam, and they wouldn't want it buried in their old town in California, when they hadf just moved halfway across the country, so they had the body shipped to Odyssey.

That's just my two bits.

Well, I'd agree completely. It's a fascinating thought, though, having him here. If the AIO team wanted, they could have an episode where Whit, Janna, or Jason visit...

even if they flew the body back, he died when whit lived in chicago, (at least not in odyssey), so not there, but in the official guide they point this out, and in later episode mention soemthing about Jerry's room at whits house, so there is a goof, there is no official explanation yet.

I always thought Whit and Jenny just put a room for Jerry in their Odyssey home, and filled it with his memoirs. For a grieving couple, it would make sense to set up a memorial for their deceased child.

I thought that too, but I don't think Whit would do something like that, maybe for his wife, a corner in Whit's End, but not for his son in his room.

But if you had an extra room in your house, and you were grieving the loss if your child, and you still had all of his stuff, it makes sense. It would be dumb for them to pawn off all his things if they had the space to keep it. My grandparents kept all of their kids' rooms the same for years after they left home, so it's not that strange.

That's different, your Grandparents didn't need to worry about losing your parents, and it is quite clear that Whit believes in moving on and forgetting the past.

Not always. If that was the case, episodes such as Silent Night or Prequels of Love never would've happened. Those were all about Jenny. In The Mortal Coil, Whit programmed the Imagination Station to "see" Heaven to some extent to visit with who? People from his past.

In answer to your question, Bren, I was listening to The Decision today, and Jack is showing Joanne around, and he references that Whit's roots grow deep there, and "his wife and eldest son are buried in the local cemetery."

well, then there is your answer, why couldn't some one post that at the beginning of this forum?
The official guide mentions this mistake, as there is no official and one place.

This sounds like a debate. I think both of you are right. But by the way, Old Judge, AIO has a ton of goofs. It never does any of them on purpose, that's why they're called goofs. They were goofy mess-ups. I just wanted to point that out...

Novatom, I know it could be a mess-up, but if Jack said it, who are we to disagree? He's a lifelong friend of the Whittaker family, and if anybody would know where Jerry's buried, it would be him. That is the only time it is mentioned on the show, and it has never been contradicted anywhere else, such as Whit's being in the Army but it's really the Navy thing. If you want more concrete proof, I just checked my Official Guide, and this was not listed as a goof. So for now, I believe it stands.

maybe I should believe Mr. Whittaker himself more than Jack, maybe Jack was wrong!?! He's human after all! (whit is not, he has been alive even after his death.)
and I feel like this forum is stuck bouncing between TOJ and I,
ALAS! I shall quite myself from this forum until it gets more traffic.

EDIT: WHAT!?! It IS in the official guide, I read it!
let me find which page!
Page 126!
"Goof alert
In "The Reluctant Rival," Whit tells Monty that he'll be staying in "Uncle Jerry's old room." But in "A Member of the Family" (album 1), Whit says that the Whittaker family moved to Odyssey after Jerry died."
Also in "Memories of Jerry," Jerry leaves for Vietnam, while the family is still in Chicago.
NO more arguing! This is not open for discussion, just agree with me, and lets move on!

That's doesn't mean he had to be buried in Chicago. David Livingstone died in Africa, yet he was buried in Westminster Abbey. If you want to debate the Official Guide, the place to see if where he's buried is a goof would be Album 28.

(Hey, there's nothing wrong with bouncing a topic between two people. I find this quite enjoyable. I have not had a good Odyssey debate in a while.)
