Well, based on what TOJ said, Emily is, at the most, 13. You play guitar, do you not? When did you start playing? Were you able to play it at the age of 13? Right now, there are 5 year olds out there composing their own music, and yet you're assuming that a 13 year old is totally helpless when it comes to solving things.
dolphinlovr4ever wrote:No get hit in the head Maybe then she would have died
I really don't understand what on earth that means, sorry.
And to further my questions toward Metal, you are 13, I believe? Do you like to solve mysteries or puzzles, maybe? Do you play any instruments? Do you paint or draw or write? A 13 year old is perfectly capable of doing any of those things, especially one as smart as Emily.
Renae wrote:If KREers bash on anything...its the way in which Emily uses this talent. And if KREers hate on anything...its the way you ERKers elevate Emily to a deistic (is that the right word?) position for it.
Check your facts peeeoples
I'm sorry, but I believe PF is the only one in this club right now totally obsessed with Emily. I like her, and think she is a great character, and if we ERKers hate one thing, it's how you treat Emily like trash, and act like it's totally wrong that a bright, curious young girl can *gasp* figure stuff out on her own!

Yep.

Nope.

And 5 year olds who compose their own music are SOOOOOOOO common, aren't they? :|

I never said she was totally helpless. She's just annoying and unrealistic. In my experiences(And that's all I can base stuff off) and the experiences of people I know, kids solving mysteries of that nature just...doesn't happen. XD I think most people in the USA would agree.

Were you interested in guitar at 13? Did you attempt to play at 13?
No, they are not. But it is possible, and so is solving mysteries... ever heard of Encyclopedia Brown? Stories about smart mystery-solving kids have been around for a loooonnngg time.
And to be honest, I couldn't care less what the majority of Americans think. *shrugs* Sorry, I don't mean that in a bad way, but I disagree with many things that most people in the USA agree with. And Odyssey mysteries really aren't that complicated...sure, I can't solve them, but that doesn't mean anything, cause I'm terrible at mysteries. But Emily is great at them

I may have been interested, but no, I didn't play guitar when I was 13.

Yes, and that's even DUMBER(In my opinion). XD He nearly puts Emily to shame. The only reason I prefer him is because he's not annoying. :D There's no way some 10 year old could solve all that stuff his dad(a police chief) couldn't solve, I mean COME ON... I even sometimes look back at some of those mysteries and just scratch my head... :? I always look at the answers in the back of the book. XD

Same here. And apparently everyone I know is terrible at 'em too... O.o
But Emily is great at them
She was also(along with every episode she was in) created by a team of talented writers, some of which have been writing radio-dramas for 30+ years. Of course she's gonna be "great" at them, she's got a whole bunch of GROWN MEN scripting her every move. :P

In closing:

And that's what Emily is, too. Emily is a character in a story about Odyssey.

The same is true for EVERY SINGLE OTHER Odyssey character... this doesn't really prove anything, sorry.
You have some good points, but I still love Emily the way she is. =)

We're not talking about EVERY SINGLE OTHER Odyssey character, we're talking about Emily. Emily is 11(or 13) and is solving crazy mysteries made up by grown men who create the episodes to APPEAR like she knows what she's doing. But in the end, it's fake. Unrealistic. And then she's got annoyingness thrown on top of there too... :?
but I still love Emily the way she is. =)
Please do. Without you ERKers, there'd be no one to have a war with. :( XD

Apparently I've fake, unrealistic, and annoying. XD I was solving mysteries at these ages too. :( IT ISN'T UNREALISTIC. It's just a rare thing. I'm not a story character, am I? (I mean, apart from being in God's story) It's just not common. It doesn't mean it's unlikely, or even impossible. Ask your co-founder, Tea Ess. I've solved many a mystery with him. And, we're still working on a couple.

It's fun! Rare, but not impossible.

What's the difference between Connie solving a mystery in 'Broken Window' and Emily solving one in 'A Game for a Mystery'? There is none. Just because you guys are far to simple minded to appreciate the great art known as Odyssey, and Emily, in this case, DOES NOT mean she is any less great of a Character than Lucy Cunningham Shultz Davis herself!

Oh, maybe Broken Window had a little something called intrigue and put some interest in the fans.

Oh, maybe A Game for a Mystery has the same thing, and you lack a little something called having an open mind and willingness, among other things, to truly appreciate something of such greatness. Hmm?

Mmhm. And I'm sure they were filled with LOTZ of intense action and ingenious plot. Wait, come to think of it, I solved mysteries at that age too!!! O.o I lost a toy...And then I FOUND IT!!! o_O Apparently it's not uncommon after all...XD

*BEEEEEP* *WRONG* Actually, there is. Connie is older and smarter than Emily, so solving that kind of mystery isn't that big of a deal. Connie's not annoying, and Emily...*cough*...IS. XD Big difference.

None of us here in KRE are simple-minded, in fact far from it. I think those who suggest such things are the simple-minded ones. :P We just don't support an annoying character. Get over it. Or don't...o_O And actually, for your information, we HAVE appreciated the great art known as Odyssey, and I believe we've stated that multiple times. Odyssey is great. :D Emily, however, is not. <-- My opinion. That's all.

If I am to be called narrow-minded for not enjoying a twenty-five minute piece of audio chaos ending with a thieving bird and a broken game system, I will happily accept that title.

Exactly if Emily's mystery's were interesting and had some sort of plot they might be good. For instance The Malted Milkball Falcon I mean seriously stealing candy? That's such a big case. Or Game for a Mystery the list just goes on and on.

Congratulations on summing up the entire children's mystery genre. It is indeed, about children solving crazy mysteries written by adults. As Seasie said, that's not an new idea. Encyclopedia Brown and the Boxcar children, for example, which I, as well as Seasie perhaps, adore, are overwhelmingly popular. There is around a hundred Boxcar Children novelettes, and the Encyclopedia brown books, on top of selling millions, have a TV series as well as a movie expected in a few years.
And you un-Emilyophiles insist on constantly saying she's "annoying" like a ton of parrots. Being annoyed is an emotion. Obviously, a lot of people don't share that emotional experience. Yet, you people act as if, if she annoys you, she should automatically annoy everyone on the planet. She can;t annoy everyone. Suppose she annoyed the writers: "Hey, Dave Arnold, you know that awful character Emily? I've just got to make another show about her!" "Oh, Nathan Hoobler, what a great idea! Love how annoying she is! DO IT!"
Just because you guys are far to simple minded to appreciate the great art known as Odyssey

True, Sammy was joking. However, you people are remarkably adamant that a character is bad and unwilling to accept that if people like her, (newsflash) she's likeable.

I also was brought up on Encyclopedia Brown, Boxcar children and the like. :)

Wanna know why they're popular? Because they appeal to the young-kid public. I can't think of a single little kid who WOULDN'T wanna read a book about some kid his/her age who can solve crazy mysteries and yadda yadda such yadda. Especially since that just...doesn't happen. o_O If those books actually stuck true to reality, they'd be as boring as the dickens, and would NOT appeal to little kids around the globe, lemme tell ya. XD
Yet, you people act as if, if she annoys you, she should automatically annoy everyone on the planet.
Well, she SHOULD annoy everyone on the planet. o_O But, unfortunately, there are those who fail to see the light...
"Hey, Dave Arnold, you know that awful character Emily? I've just got to make another show about her!" "Oh, Nathan Hoobler, what a great idea! Love how annoying she is! DO IT!"
Well...If the deceived people go crazy over annoying characters, then yeah, they'd have the right mindset. :D If only to sell more albums...
(newsflash) she's likeable.
*Another newsflash(yours is now out of date)* She's annoying. O_O Ish.
