Yes, they may not be famous solely because of their looks, but I believe it can be safely said that they wouldn't be near as popular as they are now if they didn't have the looks. Thus, the notion that all the girls who got their new single to #1 in 65 countries don't give a wet banana peel about how attractive they are is utter hogwash.

Exactly. People are devoted to celebrities in mysterious ways. Besides, Gabrielle, it's not like you know all these people, and with the amount of people it would take to get that song to #1 in sixty-five countries, it's not only foolish, it's simply unfeasible to claim that all of them were obviously doing it because they support the band and not because they find them attractive.
it's not about 'deserve'. it's about what you believe. and i believe in love

I find One Direction VERY Attractive. And VERY Talented. And if you have a few hours I will list the reasons I like One Direction. I realize that many fans wouldn't like them if they were not attractive. I can't call myself a devoted fan If I do not know that.

Poor Gabrielle... Someone needs to become a One Direction fan on here so she'll actually have a sympathizer. :D

You know what? All you people hating on the boys need to just back the truck up. We aren't dissing your music. One Direction saved me. Also, until you have over 20 million fans, just keep your mouth shut about them.

Please don't use the they're really famous so they must be good. I don't care that you like one direction at all we all have different music tastes, but please don't say because they're famous they must be good. >_>

heaven forbid that people criticise popular people! Seriously, if popular people were immune to criticism we would be in a sad state.

I'm not saying that they're good because they're famous. Justin Beiber is famous and his music is trash. Rather, One Direction is good because they truly are talented but also they are genuinely good people. Harry Styles took his day off, went into the city and spent ten thousand dollars on dominoes pizza then went around and gave it to homeless pizza. They do charity work in Africa and other poverty stricken places. Famous isn't a word that should be used to describe people. It strips away every characterization of a person and leaves people only knowing them for their fame. Not because s/he is a good person and helps people.

So the quality of their music is dependent on their humanitarian work?

In that case, Bieber's music is great too. Once a little girl got too sick to go to one of his concerts and he gave her private performance and even a kiss. (She said she'd "Never wash my face" again.) That's rather sweet.

But anyway, as far as how good of a person they are, that's really not up for us to decide anyway.

As far as the music, it's catchy. They've gotten me out of a mood or two as well. They have some problematic songs, but they stay fairly restrained overall and I love how their songs are about how amazing girls are instead of how cool they are because they do all sorts of lovely objectifying things to girls.
