Re: Christian vs. Catholic

I realize they cast lots, what I am saying is, why did they go through that process at all? They had to go through a bunch of people and continued to narrow down the list to two people, Matthias and Joseph called Barsabus. They would not have searched out any sort of replacement for Judas if their a...

Re: Christian vs. Catholic

And who determines what is a correct interpretation? That is a very vague and could be taken in a relativistic way leading to people being able to believe anything they say is the proper interpretation.

Re: Christian vs. Catholic

Then why would the apostles choose a replacement of Judas if there authority didn't pass on? The succession of Judas by Matthias is a clear example of how the apostles had special authority and they could pass it on to others. Hello, they threw lots. And for all that, Mattias was never mentioned ag...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

It isn't buying grace but rather cooperating with it. Most Protestants believe in faith alone without any works to save whereas I believe we have to cooperate with grace and then do something about it to be received into God's plan. Nothing we can do will earn salvation I agree on that point but we ...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

It's not a contradiction. What I am trying to say is that the reason people left Jesus when he said he was the bread of life was because he was talking literally and they didn't leave him when he said he was the water of life because he was talking figuratively. Also being the water of life is a sym...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

First a clarifying question, you are both MF and Countess right? I just want to make sure before I jump to conclusions. They were turned off because in a way he was talking about cannibalism but not actually cannibalism because Jesus is God. Because Jesus is God if we consume him it would bring us c...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

Yes grace comes from God but that doesn't mean he can't use physical things to impart his grace. Jesus was a man, God created the world. Physical things are not intrinsically bad. No he wasn't speaking spiritually when he said you must gnaw on my flesh. He was speaking very very literally and even s...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

And I want to be clear, grace is according to the dictionary, "the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings." Grace comes from God on anyone he chooses to bestow it on. And yes it is easier to physically eat something, I don't...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

John 6 43 “Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’[d] Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him com...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

I see in Scripture Jesus commanding us quite literally to eat his flesh and drink his blood to receive life within us. The Eucharist is Jesus. I never said it was a physical grace I said we receive grace through it. because we are literally consuming Christ. Reception of Christ into us brings grace ...

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

We do it to receive the very body, blood, soul, and divinity of my dearly beloved lord Jesus Christ and because of that receiving it every day does not become commonplace but rather it builds me up and brings me closer to God.

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

Jesus never mentions any specific frequency only as often as you do drink the cup and eat the bread should you do it in remembrance of him.

What I am more steering towards is what is the purpose or meaning of communion? Why do we do it at all?

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

@Eleventh, on this forum most people know you and know about EO so I think it would have the same effect as asking about Catholics

Do people have biblical evidence for receiving only every once in a while? I personally believe we should as frequently as possible.

Re: Communion: Open or Closed?

As I have said before Catholics believe in closed communion and War_Doctor, why do you always ask if Catholics could receive at Protestant communion? You know that a good Catholic would never receive communion outside of the Church. I understand you are basically asking what are their beliefs on the...

Also the Bible explicitly says that the Bible is not for private interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20 "Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation"
