As
promised, today I'm going to share my insights on what
former Odyssey writer Marshal Younger is currently doing. As
you may have learned by reading our latest
interview with Marshal, he is no longer working for
Focus on the Family. Instead, Marshal now shares his talents
with a brand-new audio drama series, Lamplighter Theatre.
This new drama is a production of Lamplighter Ministries
International, a ministry dedicated to building character
through storytelling. The major way they do this is by
finding rare books and stories and re-publishing them for
today's age of readers. Each book is bound for durability as
well. The first installment from Lamplighter Theatre
is called Sir Malcolm and the Missing Prince.
Welcome to Abington Falls, a
remote New England Village where you'll find a curious
little shop and its collector, Finnian Jones. It is said
that once you step inside his shop you will be intrigued by
his collection of antiques, rare books, and finest blends,
and drawn into his stories that mysteriously change lives.
Sir Malcolm and the Missing Prince
tells the story of an arrogant prince who must learn a
lesson in humility and develop a proper work ethic in a
difficult way. Being the Adventures in Odyssey fan
that I am, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to learn more
about this series when I heard about several former Odyssey
team members and actors devoting time to this drama. So I
did what any Odyssey fan (and any radio drama lover) would
do in this case... I ordered a copy. Yes, I mentioned that
Lamplighter Ministries takes old books and re-releases them,
but I didn't mention yet that the new editions have an old
appeal to them. When I received my copy of the Sir
Malcolm and the Missing Prince drama in the mail, I
noticed that the packaging is very reminiscent of a book
itself. It looks like a mini hardcover book, and when you
open it up, it has several pages of illustrations and
information about the release, upcoming dramatizations, and
a cast listing. Two CDs are neatly slid from the top into
two of the pages, and the audio drama takes up very little
room on a shelf (less than an inch). Perhaps my favorite
part of the packaging is the fact that it looks like a small
book. What a wonderful touch!
But what about the juice? The meat? The
butter on the bread? The flavor of the drama? I was
immediately captivated by the story, and it definitely has
both a Focus on the Family Radio Theatre and Adventures in Odyssey feel to it. The acting is
absolutely superb, with familiar actors John Rhys-Davies (Radio
Theatre), Adam Wylie (Ryan Cummings from The
Truth Chronicles), and Jess Harnell (Wooton). The story
is intriguing, and the music/sound design keeps you
listening. It is worth mentioning that former Odyssey staff
members Bob Hoose, John Fornof, and Mark Drury were involved
with this first release. John Campbell, our familiar music
guy for Odyssey, shares his talents in Sir Malcolm as
well.If you're an Odyssey and Radio Theatre
fan, you won't want to miss out on titles from this new
series. To learn more, listen to promos, and hear the first
episode, visit the official page here. It's also available for order at
CBD.
Also, this is totally off topic, but kudos
to the Official Podcast blog for their plug for our recently
revamped Where Odyssey Is Not
section in their September 28th update(yesterday)! Thanks, Focus!

Interview with
Marshal Younger & Audio/Video Goodies
Today
I'm extremely excited (aren't I always?) to present a
special interview we recently conducted with one of
Odyssey's best. In case you are not yet aware of it,
long-time Adventures in Odyssey writer, director, and
actor Marshal Younger is no longer with the Odyssey team,
but that's not to say he's not busy contributing to the
world of quality radio drama. In our interview, Marshal
recollects his favorite memories working with the creators
of the show, the challenges, the blessings, and the
opportunities God has given him to use his skills and
talents after Adventures in Odyssey. Be watching in a
future blog entry about our take on what he's working on
now. The interview is a must-read, so by all means, you know what to do.
Speaking of interviews, you
will notice that we've released a brand-new look and feel to
our Interviews section
today! Not only do you get to read interviews with the
actors, writers, producers, etc., for AIO, you also have
different opportunities to learn more about Odyssey's
creators and hear their stories. Basically the entire
section now carries the theme, "Everyone has a story to
tell." It doesn't matter if you're writing for the series,
acting for the series, or listening to the series. Adventures in Odyssey impacts everyone regardless of
your status. Now we'd like to think of it as a place where
you can read, hear, and see the stories of others--and you
can share your story, too!
The first new feature is a
called Audio Interviews, where we've gathered hours
of audio interviews that have been conducted via different
online fan outlets, from podcasts to blogs. Some of them you
may have heard before, while others may be new to you. Our
goal is to be one of the biggest AIO fan sites on the net
with a variety of things you can enjoy. I had wanted to
create a place where the fans could go to find all the
behind-the-scenes interviews with the fans, by the fans, and
for the fans. Thanks to these different fan outlets, we're
able to present a convenient, all-in-one-place portal to
those interviews.
But that's not all! We're also
introducing a new feature as well, called Video
Interviews. Yes, even some video interviews with the
creators of Odyssey are out there, though not very many at
this point. We'd like to see this area expand in the days
ahead.
Of course, we're now streaming
our new features, whether they be audio or video, for an
effortless experience. We've kept our tried-and-true Fan
Interviews section, and we're still leaving it open for
you to share your story by taking an interview
online. So what are you waiting for? Your first stop...
Marshal's interview.
And we just keep the exciting
things coming. Check back here sometime next week for another big site update!

their brief update on the upcoming season.
Also, The Official Podcast has released their latest podcast,
though it's not yet available on their website. Download
your copy of podcast #78 via iTunes or directly here. Bob and Jesse interviewed Jim Cummings, voice
of King Lawrence in the Passages: Darien's
Rise audio release!
And for those of you who don't
know yet, I released some news about another big update via
our RSS feed a few days ago. Be
sure to check back this Saturday for a big update to

Focus on the
Family Radio Theatre
You may have noticed that
banner in the upper-right corner of our homepage at the
moment. That's because I'm so excited for the release of
Focus on the Family Radio Theatre's dramatization of The
Screwtape Letters on October 15th. If you like Adventures in Odyssey, you'll certainly like this!
Here's a sneak peek at what you'll be hearing:
"From the
award-winning audio drama team
that brought you Radio Theatre’s
Amazing Grace and The
Chronicles of Narnia. In his
enduringly popular masterpiece
The Screwtape Letters, C.
S. Lewis re-imagines Hell as a
gruesome bureaucracy. With
spiritual insight and wry wit,
Lewis suggests that demons,
laboring in a vast enterprise,
have horribly recognizable human
attributes: competition, greed,
and totalitarian punishment.
Avoiding their own painful
torture as well as a desire to
dominate are what drive demons
to torment their “patients.” The
style and unique dark humor of
The Screwtape Letters are
retained in this full-cast
dramatization, as is the
original setting of London
during World War II. The story
is carried by the senior demon
Screwtape (Andy Serkis) as he
shares correspondence to his
apprentice demon Wormwood. All
31 letters lead into dramatic
scenes, set in either Hell or
the real world with humans—aka
“the patient,” as the demons
say—along with his circle of
friends and family. This Radio
Theatre release also stars
Geoffrey Palmer (Tomorrow
Never Dies), Laura Michelle
Kelly (Sweeney Todd),
Eileen Page (The Secret
Garden), and other
world-class actors."
We've included a
behind-the-scenes video in
today's blog entry so you can
see what's in store. Then be
sure to visit the official
website at screwtape.com.

It's Time to
Unveil Something Big!
Today
is finally the day! As promised, some big things are in
store for you as we're entering a long-needed restructuring
of the website and an exciting revamped site wonder. But
first, I am extremely excited to unveil our new and improved
Where Odyssey Is Not section!
Audio Preview:
Find out where Odyssey is, based on where it is not.
Thanks to Kevin at the Ceiling Fan for the commercial! We decided that
since this feature was cool enough to receive a mention in
The
Official Guide, it wouldn't hurt to make it easier
to find and get the section as up-to-date as it could be
with some major improvements. Now, for the first time ever,
you'll have a chance to discover places in the United States
in which Odyssey cannot be located, and you can also hear
the evidence for yourself! Check it out!
As always, your contributions to this section are very
helpful. Thanks to everyone who contacted us over the past
year with insights!
Be sure
to subscribe to our
brand-new RSS feed which made its appearance on Thursday.
We'll keep you up-to-date on the latest Odyssey news, site
releases, and more... things just like this take the cake!
We
received so many emails from our visitors for months...
asking, begging, pleading with us to put up a search
engine here at the Scoop. After all this time, it's finally
here. You will notice that a prominent Search page is now available on the navigation bar.
It's
Site Maintenance Time Again
You may
have noticed that our navigation bar looks a little
different than usual. That's because it is. To make room for
more sections and to get rid of unnecessary site content,
here's the rundown of some of the other changes we made here
at the Scoop:
The
News section we once had has gone bye-bye! It was
rarely updated (if ever), and it was a little redundant,
considering that we have a blog right here that proves
to be a thousand times more newsworthy.
A
new About Us section is now
available. We felt for a long time that it would be good
to create and maintain a clear understanding of our
mission as a website, vision, beliefs, and introductory
material for new and older visitors. Check it out!
The
Misc section has been removed as well. What?
you ask? Hey, no worries here. We simply renamed the
section to Features.
"Misc" seemed a little vague as to what the section is
all about. Site content such as It's Pretty Bad
When..., Citizens of Odyssey, Downloads, and others
are included in the new, but familiar section.
Polls & Forums underwent a rename to
Interact. We'll get it
updated one of these days... promise!
Sound Clips succumbed to the name changing game as
well. You can now find it under Audio.
It's shorter, sweeter, and to the point.
On
the Radio
Don't forget that today,
Passages: Darien's
Rise debuts on radio stations across the country!
Don't miss out on this wonderful audio adaptation (I've
already heard the complete drama and will review it at a
later date).
And finally, today, Chris and
Sarah at the Unofficial Podcast have released a special audio
interview with Paul McCusker, writer, director, and
all-around genius for Adventures in Odyssey. In the
interview he discusses his time with Focus, Passages,
and the upcoming season! Don't miss it.

Big News
Yesterday the
Official Podcast Blog surprised us with a little
devotional moment in response to the first episode of
Passages: Darien's
Rise. You'll also get a chance to hear audio
previews for parts one and two! Part one airs this weekend
on radio stations across the country. After all this
waiting, watching video trailers, participating in contests,
and reading the book series, tomorrow is the big day. If AIO
doesn't air on any stations near you, you're going to want
to keep your eyes on that "On the Radio" box to your left.
Yeah, tomorrow there will be a link to the Focus on the
Family Media Center, where you can listen to the
debut of
Passages: Darien's
Rise!
In yesterday's post, I
announced the release of our RSS feed, which I'm sure many
of you will be pleased to find out is now available. Be sure
to subscribe to stay updated
about The Odyssey Scoop and much more! I also sort of hinted
around that a big site update is coming tomorrow... and I'm
going to tell you just as much as I told you yesterday: It's
gonna be big! I have a feeling tomorrow's blog entry is
going to be a book. Okay, not as long as a Passages
book, but so much is going on (and on other sites as well),
I'll have to tell you all about it. Check back tomorrow!

ScoopVault
Welcome
to another edition of ScoopVault, where the Odyssey
Scoop digs deep into the site to highlight old updates and
old Scoops.
Today
I'd like to draw your attention to a section that looks like
it's been forgotten over the years. From 2001 to 2003, we
used to host a special little game we called AIO Wheel of
Fortune, in which contestants had an opportunity to
check back every day as we revealed a new letter on the
board. Visitors watched the game board fill up with letters
(much like the Wheel of Fortune game show), and,
after several days, the phrases came into focus. The first
person to solve the puzzle won, with two runner ups. It was
a very fun contest to put together. Due to its popularity,
AIO Wheel of Fortune lasted a total of thirteen
rounds. By the end, we put a little twist on the game. In
round 11, It became a Monopoly/Wheel of Fortune-style game
where a deed revealed a letter as the visitors "landed on" a
particular place each day. Of course, one move was made a
day after the dice were pre-determined to roll to letters we
specified. The players didn't actually move pieces around.
The game was very planned, with visitors all seeing the
exact same thing each day to be fair. As the round
progressed, everyone moved around the board together,
anticipating the next move.
Sufficed to say, it was a lot of fun watching emails pour in
from visitors who thought they had the answer, while others
were very quick at solving the puzzle. I'm sure many of you
missed out on this site feature, yet you can still read
about those days at our AIO Wheel of Fortune Hall of Fame section
highlighting the winners. Will this section come back?
Probably not. Is that answer set in stone? No.
Thanks
for joining us for this edition of ScoopVault, where
the past becomes present and old flavors become all the more
tasty.

Passages:
Darien's Rise Goodies
As an update to you all, I officially
received my copy of Passages: Darien's
Rise in the mail today. Copies of the long-awaited
release are making their way across the country! You'll
notice when you purchase yours that an attractive outer
sleeve surrounds the drama to make it stand out on bookstore
shelves. It looks just like the cover artwork. Also an
insert is provided inside with a beautiful map of Marus and
a brief explanation to the Passages series. I must
say that the CDs are printed in full color as well,
completing the package. You won't want to miss out on
getting your copy at the
Focus on the Family Resource Center soon. Order now!
Order from Focus directly to help their ministry directly,
and consider giving them a donation as well.
Now, I'm off to transfer the
drama to my iPod to start listening. Yes, I have been caught
up in the iPod generation as well. And it's so worth it.

Ask Paul
McCusker
Today I'm pleased to announce that you have a
chance to ask Paul
McCusker a question to be potentially answered in a
future podcast. The Unofficial Podcast needs your help in preparing for
an upcoming interview, and they're ready to collect
questions from the fans. If you've always been wanting to
ask an AIO team member a question, this is your chance. And
with a successful writer like Paul McCusker, I'm sure he'll
be able to answer anything you throw his way! You can submit
your questions via the announcement page at the podcast, or by visiting
this thread at the Town of Odyssey message boards.
Ask away!

Passages:
Darien's Rise Now Shipping!
If
you've been waiting for the release of Passages: Darien's Rise, it's now available
through the
Focus on the Family Resource Center.
I had pre-ordered my copy in July, and the item shipped from
CBD's warehouse yesterday! If you order your copy, you'll be
able to listen to the entire Passages drama in one
sitting, rather than to listen week by week on the radio.
If you can't get enough of Passages,
you certainly won't want to miss the original book release
of Darien's Rise.
Maybe it'd be a good idea to read the book before you
officially listen to the drama. Or, if you want to be on the
edge of your seat while listening, read the book afterwards.
Either way, the creators of Adventures in Odyssey
seem to have a way of creating edge-of-your-seat listening
regardless. They're just that good.
In other news, I'm getting close to the
release date of a revamping/updating of one of our most
popular sections on the site. Keep watching in the days
ahead for a surprise release date! It'll be worth it. Trust
me.

Mystery Music
Winners
Well, our very short-lived
"Mystery Music" contest is over, and I'm pleased to announce
our winners! Cheryl F., Stephen S., and "eugenefreak" have
guessed correctly and will be receiving their free copy of
the Fletcher's
RebellionAIO sampler. Congratulations!
We received a large host of
responses (and I do mean large) in this contest.
Several people guessed earlier episodes from AIO, while the
majority were able to pinpoint to newer episodes. Tons of
people guessed Exit,
and although it was a good guess, it was far from correct.
Also a fair amount of people guessed Sounds Like a
Mystery, but that episode was not correct either.
Several people hadn't read the directions thorough enough
and only submitted the name of an episode or an album name,
but I was looking for both names together. Many people did
guess the correct answer, too (before I had a chance to
update that all the winners had been selected), though their
submissions were not one of the first three to be received.
Overall, I'd like to thank all
our participants. We got such I huge response that I could
barely keep up with all the entries! Again, congratulations
to our three winners!

Mystery Music
Contest
Today
I'm throwing a surprise "Mystery Music" contest out there.
We just had a scavenger hunt that involved a little bit of
digging around, and I'm going to do that to you again today.
This time it's only one scavenger hunt with one search!
You'll notice we've got some
mystery music for you to enjoy today. The contest is simple:
Be one of the first three people to correctly answer
the question (below) in an email, using our mystery music as
a clue! Our three winners will each receive a free copy of
the Adventures in Odyssey sampler, Fletcher's
Rebellion. You can email your response via our contact formor at our email
address. You decide.
What is the name of the Adventures in
Odyssey album and episode that this music comes from? It
only appears in one episode.
Oh, and make sure the subject
of your email is Mystery Music. Otherwise, we'll move
on to the next contestant. We will immediately add an edit
to this blog entry once we have our three winners. Have fun
and happy searching!
Edit:
We have our winners! Check back Wednesday, September 9, to
see who won!

working towards, sweating over, biting our nails to get to!
Yes, that's right. Today we are unveiling our winners to
"The Ultimate Passages Fan Scavenger Hunt"!
It's certainly been an
exciting contest all the way around. Usually writing
contests tend to intimidate some people from participating,
and we were pleased with the amount of participation in this
one. In total, 48 of you answered trivia questions and
submitted your own Passages story. We received a lot
of fun entries, and if it were up to us, all of you would
receive a ribbon for helping make this contest fun. But, we
had to choose our top picks. The best of the best. The
Golden Squeegee Award of Passages stories. And now,
for our winners!
All of us at the Odyssey
Scoop, the Unofficial Podcast, and
AIO Wikiare excited to announce that Erin S., age 25, is
our grand prize winner! She will be receiving her very own
free copy of
Passages: Darien's Risefor all her hard work and creative story! We
would also like to congratulate our four runner ups,

the Darien's Rise cover artwork. All these wonderful
prizes are provided by our friends at Focus on the Family!
But that's not all. The story
of Passages isn't over. We have our contest winners,
and now you can read their entries as well. We're excited to
spotlight the best of the best fan stories.
If you participated in
The
Ultimate Passages Fan Scavenger Hunt,
then I'm sure you're dying to find out who our winners will
be. Check back tomorrow as we announce our five winners and

Adventures in Odyssey
DVD Collections
It's
been a while since I've talked about the Adventures in
Odyssey DVD's, and since I discovered some news, I
thought it would benefit many of you to see this. I was
recently visiting the Focus on the Family Resource Center at CBD and
noticed that three special Odyssey DVD's are now available
to the United States: Adventures in Odyssey DVD
Collections 1,
2, &
3.
These collections were originally created to be marketed
to Canadians and select U.S. companies, I believe, and the
Adventures
in Odyssey DVD Collectionwe've known about for
some time (including 10 episodes from the Original Series)was offered to the United States. Yet, it seems as
though the tide has changed and now you can collect the
whole series of AIO DVD adventures on three DVD's. Each DVD
gives you four videos (the first gives you five) and special
bonus features. If you've been thinking for a while you have
wanted to collect all the episodes but were overwhelmed with
the price of individual DVD's, the price you pay for all
three of these DVD's is comparable. These three releases are
also a space saver as they fit in a typical DVD case and
take up very little room on a shelf. You'll also notice
we've got those nice rays and vibrant colors that appear on
the AIO audio series collections, so you'd be going for a
consistent look to your AIO collection.
For more information, visit
our appropriate pages for Adventures in Odyssey DVD
Collections 1,
2, &
3.
Or visit our DVD's
page for a complete list of your options. If you love what
Focus on the Family does as a ministry, purchasing products
from the Focus on the Family Resource Centerdirectly
benefits their work rather than ordering from other sites.
You also have the option of adding a donation to the work of
Focus. Keep your eyes open! If you ever have any news I
don't know about, I'd love to help other AIO fans out.
Submit your news at our Contact
section and we'll beam it up in this blog!

#43 Along for
the Ride Repack
The judging for The
Ultimate Passages Fan Scavenger Hunt
has begun! Contestants, stay tuned to your email inbox in
the next couple of days to see if you're one of our winners!
In
other news, we finally have the final cover art for the
repackaged album 43, Along
for the Ride. I must say the colors are definitely
more vivid and the collection is certainly more eye-catching
than the original release. To view front and back covers in
high resolution, visit our product page.
And, in case you didn't know
yet, we posted the cover art for the highly-anticipated
album 51, Take it from the
Top, late last week. It's definitely a cover that
has inspired some conversations in the AIO community! Check
it out! Gary Locke has done it again! Next up, it's time for
the redesign of album #26. Be watching for future updates!
