 Rodney Rathbone
Rodney Rathbone is an only child, who
proudly serves as the town bully and head of a gang called “The Bones of
Rath.” He has become a fixture on the streets (and back alleys) of
Odyssey. Whether he’s harassing kids, trying to con someone, or starting
a rock band, Rodney keeps things lively through his humorous and willful
defiance of common sense.
Rodney Rathbone has tormented the town of
Odyssey ever since he moved there. As an expert in being the bully
around school and extracurricular annoyance, Rodney is very
self-absorbed. He enjoys making fun of people and picking on kids half
his size. Rodney's "Bones of Wrath" gang is the offspring of his
personality, with whom he terrorizes the town, occasionally vandalizes,
and does anything by beneficial things. It's not a shock that Rodney
turned out the way he is because his father is Bart Rathbone, another
problem in town. Rodney gets his cruel and heartless personality from
his dad because his dad encourages his actions.
In the earlier days of Rodney Rathbone, we
saw a less immature version of him, though he wasn't exempt from such a
characteristic. He is just as bad and life-threatening as he was in the
past, but in more recent days his maturity has declined. Rodney
originally focused on his gang, the Bones of Wrath, but he now seems to
be more on his own. The Bones are referenced every once in a while, but
they never appear in newer episodes.
During the Blackgaard Saga, Regis
Blackgaard played Rodney as a pawn. Rodney's gang was influential in
harsh and consistent vandalism around the town. After they were caught,
Rodney was placed in jail for some time. Rodney is often sentenced with
hours of community service for some of his negative actions.
Rodney and his parents are often portrayed
on the show as teaming up to do some dirty work.
It is interesting that Rodney is a lot
like Connie Kendall in that he never seems to age. Unlike Connie, he has
been trapped in middle school for years and never matures. Connie
eventually graduated from high school, but Rodney has been stuck in
school with other kids passing him in age. It doesn't look as if Rodney
is going anywhere in life, or on Adventures in Odyssey either.
