Horace McAlister
Horace McAlister founded Odyssey in the mid-1800s. He is
from Richland, Virginia. Even though he received the deed to the land
that would become Odyssey from being cheated by his twin brother
Grover McAlister, he prospered by
using his farming knowledge to irrigate the land from being swamp land
to farmland. Horace is responsible for naming the town of Odyssey:
"When it came around to Doc McAlister (who wasn't
really a doctor by the way, he owned the drugstore in town, so the
name kinda stuck) He said the name should have something to do with
where the settlement was situated. "It's in a beautiful valley." He
said. "A place everybody ought-a-see".
