 We Have Our
Winners!
From February 26 to March 23, 2011, Odyssey
fans were given a chance to participate in the second annual ScoopYourself contest to win a free copy of
Album 53:
The Green Ring Conspiracy,
and some special surprise bonus prizes (see below).
Much like the popularity of our first ScoopYourself in
early 2010, our 2011 edition
proved to be even more popular than the one before. We doubled our
participation from the previous year with a total of 63 contestants. All 63
entries went through preliminary judging and
narrowed down to 11 finalists. Fans were given an opportunity to vote for
their favorite of the 11 so we could gather an assessment of what the fans
thought compared with ours (we received well over 250 votes). The final
judging session took place on on April 12th with the winners announced on
Wednesday, April 13th.
What
is
ScoopYourself?
In each
ScoopYourself challenge, visitors have the opportunity to incorporate
themselves into a unique contest entry and be the most creative to win
exciting prizes!
The
Challenge
We
wanted to see fans' Adventures in Odyssey collections. We wanted to
find out who would come up with the most creative display of their Odyssey
albums, books, videos, DVDs, action figures, T-shirts, and more!
Judging
Entries
For this particular challenge, the quantity of items in fans'
collections had no effect on the chances of winning. We were interested in
the quality of entries submitted, regardless of how many Odyssey items
contestants had. We were looking for the use of props, camera angles, and
lighting to create the most creative display. We weren't looking for just
simple displays of Odyssey items on a background. We were looking for
entries that stood out as a cut above the rest, entries that went that extra
mile. The ultimate ScoopYourself contestants.
Of course, a contest
like this is very subjective, and our opinion may differ from yours. But
that's okay. We enjoyed looking at every photo we received and are confident
that you will too.
It was extremely
difficult to judge the entries (and that's not surprising!), It was so much
fun seeing the creativity expressed, much like last year... and better!.
And because of all the hard work and creativity displayed, we have decided
to throw in some special bonus prizes to our three winners. Not only will
our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners receive their free copy of
The Green Ring Conspiracy, they will
also be receiving their very own copies of books 1 and 2 of Adventures in
Odyssey's new Imagination Station series. Plus, we're including a
"Best Small Town" poster to top it off. A big congratulations to our
winners!
This
contest was just too exciting to hand out only one prize.

David B., age 13 (Coatesville, Pennsylvania) -- We thought David B's entry was exactly what one would imagine the Whit's End bulletin board to look like. David's entry includes tons of visual and written references to the entire Adventures in Odyssey series, including BTV, Wooton's comics, Odyssey Little League, Charles Thompson's "Pants" poem, Eugene's philanthropic organization, and more. Kudos to David for bringing back tons of Odyssey memories to our judges.

Joshua S., age 15 (Bartlesville, Oklahoma) Joshua amazes us again this year with his creative K'NEX display! We definitely loved the Eugene glasses and the "Scoop Yourself" and "Odyssey Scoop" text. I think most of all (if those weren't enough to help us decide on Joshua as a winner), the attention to detail with his Odyssey main characters in Lego form were second to none! How creative! It's interesting to note that Joshua's entry was voted by the fans as one of the three most creative entries. Congratulations, Joshua!

Joseph S., age 19 (Arnold, Missouri) -- Joseph's entry is a very creative parody of the cover art for "The Green Ring Conspiracy", the album we're giving away in this contest. To us, this entry is quite a clever way of beating around the bush saying "PLEASE LET ME WIN, I WANT TO FIND OUT WHO THE STILETTO IS SOO BAD!".

Zachary G., age 14 (Kernersville, North Carolina) -- Although Zachary's may not be as massive as some collections, it certainly does include quite a few more "rare" items. Some things that a lot of Odyssey fans may not have seen before are: the production cell from "Go West Young Man", (an original production cell used in the animated series), a signed picture of a few of the actors for Odyssey, and of course, that authentic wood carved camel hand crafted from a block of wood from the town of Odyssey!
