Where Did Aubrey
Shepherd Go?
By Jacob Isom
It
all started the day that the Shepherd family decided to stop into The
Timothy Center's grand opening. No one was expecting what would follow, but
God's hand was in the midst. Tom Riley, Connie Kendall, John Avery
Whittaker, and the Shepherds took part in this little fiasco, and it changed
their lives.
It's always been a toughy to reveal who
Aubrey is and what she's thinking. Everyone knows that she writes in her journal on a
regular basis and enjoys acting in plays, but AIO has never really gotten to the point
when revealing her feelings. Only in a few episodes do we see her true side.
For starters, we see her unwilling side
in the episode she first debuted in called "Opening Day." She wasn't/isn't a
Christian at the time, and definitely doesn't enjoy her family's general actions.
According to Aubrey, it's "The Lord this...the Lord that." Aubrey is really
struggling to discover what her faith really is, and through Whit's help (she doesn't
think so), she realizes that it's not so bad after all. Unfortunately AIO has never really
been clear on stating whether or not she's a Christian yet. One thing that supports that
she possibly is a Christian is the fact that in an episode titled "Opportunity
Knocks," she said that she'd been praying. That makes an AIO fan wonder.
Second of all, we see her struggle to
discover what she wants to believe in another episode called "Blackgaard's
Revenge." Even though this episode remains rather questionable to AIO fans, we see
that even though no one likes the episode (not everyone hates it), AIO gave us yet another
chance for Aubrey to receive the gospel through a scary rondezvous with Dr. Regis
Blackgaard, the former bad guy in Odyssey.
Lastly, we see that Aubrey is about to
make a decision through her adventure in the Imagination Station with a man named John the
Baptist ("The Big Deal). Time and time again, God brings to us people and
circumstances to bring us to His gift of grace. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes some
longer than others to realize the truth. Like the proverb goes, "You can't teach an
old dog new tricks."
But all of the above doesn't really
answer my question. Where is Aubrey now? Did you notice that in the past Fall 2000 and
Spring 2001 season, Aubrey just kind of disappeared? She popped in right away for a quick
two-parter, but we never heard from her again. Will we hear from her in the days ahead?
Is the actress who plays Aubrey
Shepherd (Danielle Judovits) quitting her acting career on AIO? And where have the
Shepherds gone as well? They fade out as well.
Whatever the reason for all these odd circumstances,
all AIO fans have seemed to like the Shepherd family, and most of all, Aubrey. Will we be
able to hear about Aubrey's growth as a Christian, or will AIO suddenly keep her dropped
from the script? They have done that very often in the past few years (Example: Codi,
Jared, Dwaine, Lisa, etc.). I'm sure we'll all find out together the real reason why
Aubrey's disappearance is so sudden. Hopefully the actress is only busy this year.
