What are RPG campaigns?

Role Playing Games, so essentially there are usually 3-5 players who create characters, usually adventurers like wizards or warriors, and then a GM or Game Master who creates the world they will be playing. This could be a fantasy world or a sci-fi world, whatever they come up with and he creates all the details and people in the world.

Sounds cool! So, this type of game doesn't require a board or pieces or anything like that, right?

It doesn't require that stuff but it's helpful to have a mat and figures to keep track of battles.

I ask questions of people here and I can never think of good questions to ask on other threads.

More I want people to know and care about how I do them, I put a lot of thought and read a lot to do these things and I feel like often my players don't care the same amount.
