The Blackgaard Chronicles Book 6, 7 and 8

We already know that The Blackgaard Chronicles Book 6: Bishop's Block is based off of #290: “A Name, Not a Number, Part 1”, and #291: “A Name, Not a Number, Part 2. But now we know that the title of book 7 is The Blackgaard Chronicles Book 7: Scotch Game, here’s my theory of what episodes it will be based off of; #327: “Moving Targets”, #329: “The Return”, and #331: “Checkmate” Here’s my theory for what episodes
The Blackgaard Chronicles Book 8:TBA; #332: “Another Chance”, #333: “The Last Resort”
, and #334: “The Final Conflict”. I’m hoping book 7, or 8 will reference Blackgaard putting the virus in the Imagination Station as a reference to Blackgaard’s Revenge.

So I have yet to read any of the Blackgaard Chronicle books. Are they simply a rehashing of the series, or do they expound and improve upon it? Thanks.

Great question! It is not merely a rehashing of the audio series. While a good amount of it is adapting episodes into book form, it is also providing us with new, original content. Not only is the series expounding things (scenes, characters' thoughts, etc.), there are TONS of added scenes which do not take place in the audio series which give more background to Blackgaard's planning as well as the people involved. It is really well done and fun to read!

Check out this preview of book 1 of the series. It starts with a scene featuring Phillip Glossman awaiting a call from someone and thinking through everything.

Personally, I wish that the series would expand over 8 books. With all the extra scenes and information that is being added, I am really hoping that Phil Lollar is not restricting the material of each book to meet the estimated amount of books that they have said will be in the series. If that is the case, I’m afraid that it will all be too rushed. They need to take their time with the series, because I have really enjoyed how much it is being fleshed out!

Here's what I wrote in an old post on Odyssey Obsessors about what I hope each book will cover (I typed it up back in 2022, before it was announced that book 6 covers “A Name, Not A Number”):

Book 6 (Title will have something to do with Bishops): Covers the events of “The Homecoming” and then followed by “A Rathbone of Contention”. More importantly, “Double Trouble”, which introduces Regis’ twin, Edwin Blackgaard. It can continue to cover the events leading up to Whit leaving Odyssey. While it doesn’t need to cover the entirely of Eugene and Bernard’s road trip, it can show what the process of Whit leaving was like in Odyssey and the people’s reactions to that.

Book 7 (Title will have something to do with horses): This one should begin with concluding the events of Whit leaving and have the introduction of Jack Allen. Some of the events of “…But Not Forgotten” should be covered or at least mentioned here to establish Whit’s departure and Jack’s appearance. The episodes “Tom for Mayor” should also take a good chunk of this; Although I’m not sure how, I believe that Bart Rathbone’s election to be mayor was a pivotal part of Blackgaard’s plans but were ruined thanks to Eugene Meltsner and Sam Johnson. I’d like to see the details of how much of a devastating move this was to Regis and the results of it. Finally, “A Name, Not a Number” could be covered and carried on to the next book.

Book 8 (Title will have something to do with the King): This one can conclude “A Name, Not A Number” and then cover the events of “A Code of Honor” and the Darkness Before Dawn episodes.

Book 9 (Title will have something to do with Checkmate or Queen): Darkness Before Dawn episodes continue to be covered. It can end with Phillip Glossman declaring Whit’s End to be closed.

Book 10 (Title has something to do with final moves. Or name it “Zugzwang”, since that seems to fit.): Concludes the Darkness Before Dawn episodes. Covers the aftermath episodes such as, “Welcome Home, Mr. Blackgaard”. Maybe it can end with “Home, Sweet Home”.

Overall, I do look forward to seeing what the next books hold! You can be sure I will be reading.
