I'm not against it, I visited a Baptist church a couple months ago when I was visiting a friend. I'm going to an Eastern Catholic church next weekend for a wedding.

No, visitors can be wherever they want. Traditionally Orthodox churches don't have pews or seats though so it'd be stand where ever you want.

Membership is both universal and parish, so I am Orthodox and can take communion in any Orthodox church in the world but I'm also a member of a local parish and the priest there is my spiritual father. I am also obedient to a bishop of a specific jurisdiction.

Do you know what country your family originated from? German? English?

Since shipping questions are the craze now...have you been shipped with anyone from the SS/ToO other than MF? (whoever she is)

What do you think of my recent signature quote? :D

Isaiah the Ox wrote:Good question Helios! That's one of the problems with the body/soul/spirit view of humanity. It basically comes from the verses that mention the body/soul/spirit, but then, again, other verses mention heart and a mind and many other physical characteristics. Why isn't humanity 5 or 6 different parts? (small commentary here... O.o ) (this isn't a question really, but you may comment if you wish. :P)
At the risk of sounding completely ignorant ;) , which verses are these that mention body/soul/spirit? I read Old King James, which seems to use spirit and soul interchangeably. And personally I think of humanity as having four parts...but that's just me. ;)
Eleventh Doctor wrote:So my understanding and this could be completely off so don't quote me is that the soul is the eternal part of us humans that make us human. While spirit is simply what makes us alive and who we are as individuals, so animals have a spirit what sustains and motivates them. I've also heard body, soul, and heart but that's more Eastern. And then yeah heart and mind is something you hear a lot about too. To me at this point I think we're more than just a body and soul but I'm not sure on the other specifics.
I agree with the idea that the soul is the eternal part that makes us human. However, couldn't this definition of spirit also apply to instinct...at least in the animals?

Is it important to know what we are made of?
You've mentioned before the program you are contemplating in T Dot. and feeling like you need to figure out what's next. What's missing in the way things are right now?
(if these questions are too deep ignore them, I'm in a really contemplative mood.)
Do you really think debating is a good way to change someone's mind? I discuss to further understand what I believe by sharpening it against the thoughts of someone else. I don't try to convince others. I'm not sure people can be convinced by logic, or at least not all people. There have been times where someone explained something to me, and it made sense, but I couldn't take the leap until it felt right. Sometimes I have to figure things out for myself, and its only after I've experienced a truth that I really get how write a person was when they tried to convince me with words.
Have we talked about the point of life before? Why is it important to glorify God? What is the point of prayer? What is the point of a relationship with God? (I obviously have opinions on all of these, I just want to hear yours)

Do you ever not have words to describe how you feel?

Eastern Catholic? Is that a cross between EO and RC?

German and English yes

Not to my knowledge

Seems like circular reasoning

What four parts?

Spirit or instinct yeah, same dif

Eastern Catholics are Christians who are Byzantine in liturgics and doctrines but are in communion with the Pope of Rome.

Is it important to know what we are made of? I think knowing we have a soul and a body is important but beyond that no.

What's missing is long term direction and right now I'm just aimless.

Some people can be convinced but I generally also do it to further my own understanding like you said.

The point of life, the point of glorifying God, and the point of a relationship with Him is to know Him better. Prayer is how we communicate with Him which is important for any relationship. The point of knowing God better is so we can become more like Him.

You get your stubbornness from the Germans then.

Well it isn't. There's nothing circular about it. Two options. Everyone fits into one category or another.

I was tired, I've been in debate workshops all morning and then I had a four hour drive this evening. Ask me the question about your quote again and I'll give a better answer.

I thought so. You sounded tired. I'll ask you some other time, when you can think better. Here is a question you can respond to tomorrow.

What are debate workshops like?

Debate workshops are when debaters get together during the off season to refresh themselves on debate skills to prepare for the next debate year. So at this last debate workshop we had a lecturer on the new topic, Federal Courts, then we had a practice debate that I gave feedback on, then the other coach and I gave lectures on various topics throughout the rest of the day.

Would you rather be able to tell people you have ran and completed a marathon, won a world record or traveled to the moon?

Have you ever went sky diving? If you haven't, do you ever want to?

What is a crazy thing you have done in your teenage years?

What is one thing you want to do that you haven't done yet in life?

Traveled to the moon is much cooler

I have not and I have no desire to jump out of a perfectly good plane

I was once the head of a secret debate society and fought an airsoft duel with the head of another secret debate society.

I'd like to go to the Holy Land

No :P

Why were the debate societies secret? Was it like the dead poet's society but with no poetry?

If you could change something about the SS, what would it be?

What do you do when you're nervous?

What are you looking forward to most right now?

MF: How much do you know about Helios?

Woody: Let's see. I know you survived her
drama, I know she's a danger to
society, I know she's a lie, I know
Belle is unfazed by her wrath, I
know she has ox horns, and I know
I should beware of her.

(And she is also my enemy. )

I'm pretty happy with the SS right now, maybe a bit more activity on the debate forum but that's more to do with users and not the forum itself.

When I'm nervous I fiddle with nick knacks.

There is a party coming up this Saturday for some friends who moved into a new house. A lot of my friends are going to be there and one of the friends hosting is a cook and bartender so there is going to be a ton of good food and drink. We'll be going from about 3 in the afternoon to 3 in the morning and it will be very fun.
