#1036: What's the Catch?

Post

What are everyone's thoughts on this episode?

It looks as though, following up from the ending of the episode "As Iron Sharpens Iron", Bridget has started using the virtual friend app. One thing that I noticed is that she, at the start of the episode, begins by holding the created virtual friend, Zev, at arm's length, figuratively speaking. However, by the end of the episode, she has started classifying it (maybe reluctantly? But I am unsure.) as a friend. Is this AIO addressing the current modern issue of people talking to and befriending AI chatbots? If so, I think this a great relevant subject to spend time on! I am eager to see where it goes. It would be humorous if in the next episode her trust in the app (since Zev had said their relationship has no strings attached) is broken when ETHER starts asking her to pay a subscription fee.

It seems as though my suspicions that I posted about in the topic for "As Iron Sharpens Iron" were correct: Bridget doesn't want to hang out with Christians. But she still desires friendship. However, with everyone around her being a Christian, or actively becoming Christians, she is hesitant as she feels judged and unable to be herself.

It's quite interesting that although she is actively hanging out with Kandy, Bridget's conscience is still very much present. Even while manipulating Renee in the episode, the way I heard it, she does not go at it in such a hardcore fashion as Kandy described. When Kandy realizes that Renee is unable to give the money to the club and is ready to abandon Renee as a source of utility, Bridget sarcastically mutters, "Definitely wouldn't want to hang out for someone just for fun." And of course, Bridget confesses everything to Renee at the end. Although fascinating, it shouldn't come off as too much of a surprise. After all, it has been established that Bridget doesn't fully agree with Kandy's philosophies of life. I am interested in hearing the two of them continue to interact in future episodes.

Now, what interests me most is Kandy's brother, Cameron. Do the two of them get along well? Does he take after his sister? Will we see the two of them interacting in an episode at some point? I certainly hope so! I suppose time will tell.

Overall, I think a fine episode with some good themes of friendship.

Anyone else have any thoughts? Let's discuss!
