There Is No One Just Like Me

There once was a garden of flowers,
All of them shown a luscious red.
All except the one in the middle;
The only yellow one in the garden bed.

The many others would laugh and point.
They all would call her nasty names.
The yellow flower was always left out.
Out of their fun; out of their games.

Soon the little yellow flower,
Began to believe what they would say.
She was a problem, a big mistake,
And no one wanted her to stay.

The little flower began dying.
Her petals soon began to wilt.
No one loved her. No one cared.
None had pity. None felt guilt.

Till one day, a little child,
Saw the flower, and he said,
“Why is the queen of this garden dying,
The one that rules this garden bed?”

When she heard these words exclaimed,
The little flower raised up her head.
Soon she realized what had happened.
The truth in what the child had said.

God had made her color yellow.
He had made her a different one.
God had made her special.
He had made her like the sun.

She was different, but unique.
Her heart was filled to brim with glee.
Proudly now the flower proclaimed,
“There is no one just like me!”

The Voice of God

When all is dark and I'm afraid,
When I am lost because I've strayed,
When I've no hope of coming back,
When sin has made my heart so black,
When sunlight flees, and I am blind,
When I have left so much behind,
When I do feel I am alone,
When I have reaped the bad I've sown,
When I am tired, ready to fall,
It is then LORD that I hear your call!
You help me stand, You lift me up.
You anoint my head, you fill my cup.
You tell me what I need to hear.
Your words, so powerful, ring through my ear.
And what you say has made me blessed!
I no more have a worldly zest!
"Come to me, all you who are burdened, and I will give you rest!" (Matthew 11:28)

A Seed

A little seed I planted....I'm known for my green thumb.
A little seed I planted....and let the sunlight come.
A little seed I planted....the gardeners did come by.
This little seed I planted....one day grew till the sky.

~The Road to God~

A heavy burden on my back,
A weight-- it presses me.
I travel, weary and alone.
A narrow road I see.

I scale the mountains, they so tall.
I trek through swamp and mire.
I meet with foes, with many foes.
I pass through flood and fire.

The sun beats down, it scorches me,
My face: ablaze from heat.
The path is hard, inflicting pain
Upon my tired feet.

My eyes have not experienced rest.
The light in them is faint.
My hands are blistered, cracked, and dry.
Their blood my garments taint.

Oh what this day has been for me.
This day: my very life.
It seems so long, yes very long.
An endless time of strife.

Where leads this road that travel I?
Why risk my very being?
Why do I put myself in peril?
There is no end I'm seeing.

Where do I go? What place is this,
Whose road is full of danger?
Why travel I, why burdened so?
Why am I: alien, stranger?

I know the answer, I know it well,
My soul with joy it rings!
I know why I have made this choice,
Why I have left all things!

This road, this road, oh troubled road,
This road so hard to trod,
This road, this road, oh troubled road,
This road leads up to God!
