Duggar Debate
He was never criminally charged.
Why do you keep saying "he covered it up"? Why should anybody else need to know? This was 12 years ago!
Aren't you judging him?

The police need to know about it, rape is a crime.

No one is above the law. Not even Christians, not even the Duggar family, not even politicians. Well...the last point might not be as true...

OK...no human being is above the law, of course God is above any human creations.
God is law.

Yes God is law or above the law, the Duggars are not God ergo are not above the law. This is an issue today because he was never charged, or given any counseling, and his victims were silenced and not given any help. He should not be occupying a position of leadership or claim to be a moral authority.

A couple things I'd like to add, that I've been thinking about over the past couple days...
First off, to those saying it's not a "teenage mistake", I disagree. It is, by definition, a mistake he made as a teen.
But, I of course agree that it is not JUST a teenage mistake. There is no excuse for what he did, it was terribly wrong, and it should have been reported to the police when it happened.
The other thing I've been thinking about is a bit mature, so click the spoiler at your own risk.

I disagree, largely because of the connotations of the term "teenage mistake". When people talk about "teenage mistakes", they don't usually just mean "mistakes someone made when he or she was between the ages of 13 and 19"; they usually mean "mistakes that can be forgiven because he or she was a teenager and didn't have enough life experience to know any better". Like, say, almost setting something on fire because you forgot to put out your scented candle, or maybe not seeing the difference between egging someone's house as opposed to simply TP-ing it, or taking the car for a showoff-y joyride without your parents' permission.Belle wrote:First off, to those saying it's not a "teenage mistake", I disagree. Sexually molesting multiple kids, on the other hand, is not normal teenage behavior. That's not something that most people will forgive as a dumb thing a teenager did; it's a perversion of natural sexual relations, and even at fifteen most people would see that as sick and wrong. Even the most criminal of the above mistakes (egging someone's house, which is considered vandalism) won't get you much more than a slap on the wrist by the police, and your punishment will probably be cleaning it up. Sexual molestation, especially of children, is a crime for which you can be jailed and registered as a sex offender, a label that will follow you for the rest of your life, even if you're a minor.
it's not about 'deserve'. it's about what you believe. and i believe in love
Okay. I wasn't aware there was a special definition for it, I just put the words together and thought people were getting in an uproar about something that didn't make sense.TigerShadow wrote:I disagree, largely because of the connotations of the term "teenage mistake". Boston University still plans to have Grundy teach there.

Grundy was guilty of identity theft, Josh Duggar raped girls as young as 4 and was never held responsible for that. There's a big difference between those two things.
