Why Do You Keep Coming Back?

I haven't been on the SS nearly as long as some of you dinosaurs, but it's been long enough to recognize a significant pattern: the ebb & flow of activity. Lulls can last months, even years, where barely anyone graces the message boards. I'm as guilty as anyone else lol, dipping out frequently and hoping on a few times a year.

But it seems as though everyone pops back in at some point—even if just for a moment.

So, with this thread I beg you the question: why do you come back? What keeps dragging you back to the boards like a cat dragging a dismembered pigeon to the doorstep after all these years?

For me, it's definitely my love for the radio show. Even though I'm not a big fan of where the show's at right now, Adventures in Odyssey will always have a deep place in my heart. Whenever I'm sick or down, I always have the nagging thought that just wants to take a nap with Odyssey in the background.

but the real reason is because I will never not be frustrated by the Rydell saga lol. And whenever I think about it I have the inconsolable urge to vent.

I return because the Soda Shop is the best and most mainstream place to discuss any part of Adventures in Odyssey, in an organized and time-insensitive manner, with fans of the show.

The Town of Odyssey doesn't necessarily consist of fans of the show. AIO Club comments are never organized. Facebook groups favour recent posts and make it difficult to access old information and discussions. People's blogs aren't usually mainstream, they're less organized than the forum, and they aren't necessarily open to starting a discussion about anything (you generally have to talk about the topics they bring up in their articles).

After you eliminate those other options, this is the only place left!

This made me laugh. Very good analogy!

I myself have a lot of reasons for coming back. One is, as y'all said, because this is a great relevant place to talk about AIO, which is the main thing that brings us together. While we do specialize in AIO discussions, there is also space to talk about other things and I like that. Additionally, being one who lurked around for years, I regret not joining sooner and so in a way I am making up for lost time. But honestly, I have really enjoyed my time being here, and so I make it a point to come back and be around, even though I don't have as much time to do so as I used to and even if the board is not as active as it used to be.

Also, there is an old post that Snubs wrote that I came across years ago which impacted me:

STOP TALKING ABOUT HOW YOU THINK IT IS DYING IF YOU DON'T EVEN CARE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. :x

It takes people to make a message board (active). They don't just magically come around. If everyone just waits for people to start posting, then, of course it's going to continue to die out.
I myself want to do my part in keeping the place active. I shouldn't be complaining about inactivity if I myself am contributing to the problem. Therefore, I also come back so that I can contribute towards activity. Even if I don't get responses on my posts, it is always good to write out your thoughts! :)
