Re: The Colors of Darkness

It's certainly a compelling prologue, though I would definitely not recommend continuing this rather melodramatic writing style throughout the whole book. ;) I typically am not a huge fan of prologues before fiction (one of my favorite rules for writing is to "start as close to the end of your ...

Re: God's Not Dead

I loved the video (probably my favorite Nostalgia Christian yet. And I've watched all of them. Twice.). The best part was when he checked all those court cases in the credits.

Re: Stereotypical Characters

Stereotypes work in fiction. I've read in various sources, including Writers Digest if I recall, that stereotypes can be the right choice. It just depends what you want. Stereotypes fill specific needs just like more original characters. Do circumstances call for freshness or for a familiar tried-a...

Let's put it this way: I think it's the best possible option they could have, under the circumstances of OAC.

Re: Why Is There So Little AIO Discussion?

Agreed. There were times in the past when my obsession with AIO got a little pathetic, but these days, the only minor aspect of my life that has anything to do with it is this board. Still remember all the episodes, though.

Re: Why Is There So Little AIO Discussion?

You forgot your password? It seems like they would have some sort of password recovery system set up. Even the Soda Shop has one, for crying out loud. I don't have OAC, and am not planning on getting it (it's not that I think it's overpriced and I'm rebelling or anything, I just don't think that I w...

Re: Last Movie you Saw

Paddington. It was a great film, with a very witty sense of humor that I wasn't expecting. Though don't let the 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes fool you into thinking it's something earth-shattering in the realm of family flicks: it's just one of those movies that may not be a classic that changes eve...

Re: Writers

Well... here it is: Greetings, I have a written a (roughly) 2000-word short story that I was hoping you would consider for publication in your magazine "A Gathering of the Tribes". The short story is very simple in nature, following a pompous, ambitious artist on his quest to paint a beaut...

Re: Writers

I sent it to an obscure literary magazine called "The Gathering of the Tribes". I sent it to them because they specifically said they were looking for more humorous stories. I think I might of screwed it up with my query, though... I'm going under the pen name Felix Gonzales.

Welcome to the Soda Shop, therealpaulajarvis. Most of us here are decent people. By the way, I think you should join the KRE. I feel like... I feel like Monica would want you to.

Re: Dreams

I had a dream where I was about to watch American Sniper at the theaters. I was feeling apprehensive about it in my dream. The weirdest part is I hadn't been thinking about American Sniper at all, and wouldn't have really wanted to watch it even if I could.

Happy birthday to Bren, thetardisrocks (never met that guy, but he's obviously a Whovian, so I doubt we'd have much in common :P), and, of course, dear Wretched Sinner, my film buff buddy who has now caught up with me in age.

Re: Writers

Congratulations. :D I submitted my black comedy short story to a magazine. I haven't got a reply yet, but I doubt it will get published, since I wasn't really sure what the procedure was for submission, and I didn't feel it was my best work anyway. How exactly did you approach the magazine? I mean, ...

Alright, it is now a tie between A Wrinkle In Time and Frankenstein. I for one do not care which we read, though, just to get my opinion out there, I would prefer Frankenstein. Also, I wouldn't be so quick to christen me the "fearless leader", considering I didn't even read the first book ...

Yes, that was the main focus of the post. The "punk" statement that caused so much controversy was only about a sentence of it. AIO is very fond of stereotyping, and that's the main issue here.

Re: What Books Are You Reading?

I read Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None yesterday in about 3 hours. It's a very easy book to read, but a real page-turner with a great twist ending. It was a nice break from War and Peace, which at 1000 pages in (about 400 left to go) is starting to get very boring. :?
