Summer Breaks into Odyssey
Summer vacation has begun for Odyssey
children. Many families attended the citywide sports and recreation picnic
at McCalister Park on Saturday. The festivities began in the morning with a
three-legged race, water balloon toss and soccer game. John Whittaker
provided hot dogs, cold drinks and ice cream cones. And the Odyssey city
pool offered a discount to families who wanted to cool off with an afternoon
swim.
Following the park activities, Tom Riley and Connie Kendall hosted a
nighttime bonfire on the Timothy Center grounds.
Mr. Riley said: "I’m just glad to see families enjoying time together. If I
can help by opening the Timothy Center, then I’m glad to do it."
The evening also featured a short adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play,
Romeo and Juliet, performed by Edwin Blackgaard. The show ended prematurely
due to technical difficulties.
"Everything would have gone wonderfully if it were not for that horrible
bonfire," insisted Mr. Blackgaard. No one was injured when the portable
balcony set caught on fire midway through the performance. Fortunately, the
balcony was not occupied when the fire occurred.
