Substantial News
Around The
Town With Marigold Substance

It seems like a lot is going
on around Odyssey these day. . . Speculations abound about the upcoming
mayoral race. Bart Rathbone looks set to announce his candidacy, in spite of
astounding odds against his winning because of his trouble with the law.
When asked about his convictions, he said he didn't have any. When I
clarified that I meant his court convictions for his part in the
so-called Blackgaard Scandals he said only: "Hey, if the Mayor of Washington
can get re-elected, so can I. It's a guy thing." Meanwhile, my sources tell
me that Margaret Faye, Odyssey's most aggressive businessperson, may decide
to run for mayor . . . Former Mayor Tom Riley told me that he's enjoying his
"non-political" life and is thinking seriously about a new project on his
farm. He hinted that it might be something for kids, but wouldn't specify. .
. Details are sketchy, but there are several reports that Phillip Glossman,
exiled from Odyssey, has turned up recently in England. . . We were thrilled
to learn of the engagement between Eugene Meltsner and Katrina Shanks. They
haven't set a date for the wedding, but Eugene said that they take their
"period of betrothal very seriously and will attempt to discern the best
time to exchange nuptials." Meanwhile, I'd like to retract my recent
suspicious that John Avery Whittaker and Margaret Faye were also engaged.
Though they had been seen together a lot, it was premature to mention their
future together . . . On a happier note, we congratulate Jack Allen and
Joanne Woodston on their recent marriage. I wish them all the best in the
relationship and the new antique store . . . Now, if you'll pardon me, I
have to hit the streets to get more hot news for tomorrow's column!
