Galaxy News Group recently purchased the
Odyssey Times, the oldest newspaper in the Tri-County area. Galaxy News is
one of the largest newspaper distributors in the state.
"A town like Odyssey and a newspaper like the Times are just the sorts of
things we want to invest in," said Preston Bump, president of Galaxy News.
"We don't plan to change anything. There is a real loyalty to the paper in
this town and we certainly wouldn't want to change that." The company
intends to keep Dale Jacobs, the long-time editor of the Times on staff.
"With a small-town newspaper, money is always tight," says Jacobs. "It will
be a relief not to have to worry about it."
The Odyssey Times has been Odyssey's newspaper for more than fifty years. A
few competing alternate newspapers, such as The Odyssey Tattler and The
Daily Mudslinger have come and gone while the Times circulation has grown
steadily. The Odyssey Times will continue its daily circulation to all of
its existing customers, while trying to gain customers in neighboring
markets like Connellsville.
