Contest Winner Announced
Christopher Jameson was the
big winner of The Odyssey Times/Whit's End-sponsored "Mayor for a
Day" contest. Jameson's name was drawn from a barrel by John Whittaker at
the festive proceedings at Whit's End on Saturday.
Jameson shouted, "Oh wow oh
wow oh wow" upon hearing his name called. As contest winner, Jameson will
spend a full day in the office of the mayor, making decisions about
legislation as the real mayor would.
Dale Jacobs, editor of the
Times, announced Jameson's name after a stirring speech proclaiming the
contest as a means to "help young people learn that the heart of our
democracy is the involvement of its people in its processes."
Mayor Daniels said he is
looking forward to the day off.
