The Thomas Greyson Memorial Planetarium will
hold its grand opening next week at Campbell College according to Dean
Rogers, head of the college's construction committee. The planetarium is the
first in a number of planned expansions to the College.
The planetarium began construction last year when a similar establishment
was forced to close down at the Connellsville Science Museum. "The old
planetarium was popular with school groups, but it wasn't easily accessible
to the public in general," says Dean Rogers. "Our planetarium will be open
to the public, which should help us reach out to the community more."
Campbell College has dealt with declining enrollment, loss of government
funds, and faculty problems for the last few years and Dean Rogers hopes
these additions will help to bring students back to the college. "We've
always been a fine school for getting a great one-of-a-kind education," he
says. "We always knew that the teaching couldn't change. Now we're just
letting our technology catch up with our teaching."
