I would like to start off by saying I am not
a big fan of Emily Jones. I like the actress and think she
is wonderful, but the character is just not one of my
favorites. On that note, when I read the description for
this episode, I was hesitant about listening to it. When I
listened to it on Saturday, some of my suspicions were
confirmed. I enjoyed the episode, don't get me wrong, just
not as much as I thought I was. I liked how Emily was
helping her father, and getting a taste of what being a
judge actually was. I found it very interesting when she
didn't really enjoy it; it was very ironic. I did feel bad
for her, everyone knows what it feels like to try to live up
to expectations. The fact that she went to Whit first seemed
very much like the older episodes. The thing I didn't like
was the Imagination Station adventure. Don't get me wrong, I
really liked the actual adventure, but the fact that Whit
sent Emily on an adventure about his own life seemed a
bit....self-centered, a little. Whit, to me, seemed out of
character. It isn't like that beloved character we all know
and love to show a child an adventure about himself, rather
than a historical character. I do see why the writers did it
that way, though. Another thing I didn't really like was the
message. I understand why it is like that, but it at first
sounds like Whit is telling Emily not to go after her
dreams, they will probably change anyway. I get where he was
coming from, but....I don't know. I would have thought that
he would say something like, "Try a couple other things, but
don't give up on your dreams." Unless of course they come
before God, or her family, or something equally important.
I have mixed feelings about this episode. I
enjoyed it, but Whit, and the meaning, seemed a bit off to
me. I would most likely listen to this again, it just
wouldn't be on my Odyssey play list.
