Fans
of Adventures in Odyssey, today marks yet another new
episode which debuts on radio stations, and online:
Wooton, Eugene,
Connie, and Matthew try to apply the discipline
of fasting and, through their comedic antics,
realize that it's far more difficult than they
imagined.

If you missed the latest episode of
Adventures in Odyssey
which aired on October 23rd, you can certainly catch up and
hear what's happening in Odyssey these days. And today, we
present our site review of
Stage Fright, thanks to our reviewer in residence,
or "staff writer" Ben Warren:
One gets a vague sense they are listening to a
show that isn't
Adventures in Odyssey but a cheap rip-off. Can the creators of
Adventures in Odyssey write a show about anybody, add it to a
season lineup, and then call it Adventures in Odyssey?Read

A big shout-out to our reviewer's
insightfulness and attention to detail in his reviews.
I'm sure you can figure out by now that he isn't afraid to
say it like it is. Bring things out in the open. Give the
fans and Odyssey writers something to chew on. Anyway, you
get the idea. And since we're caught up with our review
posting, you can count on seeing one review per week as
episodes air from here on out.
Oh, by the way. Have we
mentioned that review writing isn't Ben Warren's only
talent? He also runs his own
blog which includes other insights and concerns
about AIO.
For
retail and the mainstream, Christmas starts somewhere around
August and doesn't let up until New Year's Day is over. But
for Adventures in Odyssey, a Christmas episode every
now and then is good all year 'round. And that beats a glass
of egg nog any day.
Yes, Christmas is quickly sneaking up on us, and Focus on
the Family is now offering a special audio showcase
collection of Odyssey episodes from the first fifty albums.
Featuring 24 episodes from Odyssey's 20+ years of Christmas
memories, the
Ultimate Christmas Collection is sure to rekindle
the Christmas spirit.
How does one go about getting their hands on this special
album? I'm glad you asked. For the first time in
Adventures in Odyssey's history, Focus is releasing this
as an exclusive audio download only in the
Family Store. The episodes (and all albums and
episodes offered through the Family Store) are high quality
audio files and worth every penny.

product page.
Does entertainment need a point? How
about an episode of Adventures in Odyssey that
attempts to answer that question but doesn't seem to
communicate one simple theme as most of the show's episodes
do? Find out our reviewer's answer in his
review of
Wooton's Broken Pencil Show:
This is an experimental episode that contains enough bubbling energy, humor
and good performances to stand-out from its counterparts. I also appreciate
shows that don't sacrifice the realistic side of Adventures in Odyssey
but properly channels the show's sillier side through the use of Kids
Radio....

The
Fall 2010 season continues as a new show,
Stage Fright, debuts on radio stations across the
country (and online):
Barrett couldn't
be more excited about getting the lead role in
the school play. But when his first practice is
interrupted by a mysterious booming voice, Emily
Jones must investigate the "phantom of the
school play."

Okay, here's the deal. The Odyssey
Scoop is a rather large fan site. In fact, there are so many
things which need tending to on a regular basis that some
site features get ignored. And as the site continues to
expand and grow, even more things need upkeep.
Basically what I'm saying is that I
can't keep up!
So, to alleviate some of my worries,
long-time Adventures in Odyssey fan Ben Warren has
agreed to step up to the plate and handle our Reviews
section for us. I consider him to be both a very talented
writer with the knowledge needed to carry on the task. Plus,
he's got the style, wit, and attention to depth we consider
to be a reviewingmust at the Scoop. His approach to
review writing is very planned out and organized with much
thought which goes into each review.
In a nutshell, Ben Warren is exactly
what we're looking for since I simply don't have the time to
write reviews on a consistent basis. And today, his
first review makes its debut at the Scoop:
I miss hearing mysteries that can scare
my socks off;
The Mysterious Stranger and
The Case of the Secret Room did that, and
made me cower underneath my bed sheets as a result. Adventures in Odyssey
probably doesn't make episodes quite that intense anymore. But those
older shows were certainly made with Hitchcock's stamp of approval, driven
strictly by an unnerving mood and powerful performances...

I'd like to thank and welcome
our new staff writer here at the Scoop: Ben Warren! I think
you'll definitely be hearing more from him in the days

What is that announcement? Well, you actually think we'd
tell you ahead of time? Keep checking back.
Can Adventures in Odyssey move
forward as it shows signs of moving back to its roots?
Today, we're releasing a new
article by one of The Odyssey Scoop's visitors and
avid AIO fan, Marvin Grant. This Odyssey listener has
volunteered to express his concerns in our Articles
section of the site in his article,
Is Odyssey Stuck in the Past?
I guess that's what continues to make
Adventures in Odyssey unique as the world's #1 family
audio drama. With a team of top-notch writers, producers,
actors, and sound designers, fans can expect quality
entertainment as the series grows. And with loyal fans
standing behind them and sharing comments, concerns, and
ideas for the show, the program lives on.
We're
a couple weeks into a new season of
Adventures in Odyssey
shows. Be sure to tune in today to
Wooton's Broken Pencil Show:
In a last-minute replacement,
Wooton Bassett hosts his own Kids' Radio show
and is forced to ad-lib for a half-hour. Will
his show have a point?

Once
again, we've been doing a little behind-the-scenes
housekeeping here at The Odyssey Scoop. As of today, our Episodes
section is expanded and will certainly be a great help to
many people.
First, almost every Adventures in
Odyssey episode listing features a Preview audio
player which you can use to sample the episode. It's only a
30 second audio snippet of every episode, but enough to jog
your memory if you're trying to figure out the name of an
episode.
Secondly, we've added a Broadcast
Promo link to individual episodes as they become
available. At the moment, newer episodes all contain a promo
and select older episodes. You'll begin to see the episode
listings fill out in the coming weeks and months.
As always, we're continually thinking
of ways to improve the Scoop experience. Perhaps, just
perhaps, this new improvement will make someone's
day! If nothing else, someone who stumbles upon this website
may listen to some of the previews and try on Adventures
in Odyssey for themselves.
The Adventures in Odyssey team
needs your help! Time is ticking away and the team is
already looking ahead to the 25th anniversary of AIO. But
how does that involve you? Right now, Focus on the Family
has made a special
survey available in which you can help them decide
what direction to take for their momentous celebration in
the distant future. Take the survey
hereand help them out.
Plus, if you've read any of the
Passages books, you have a chance to submit your own
endorsement for the series. Focus is looking for just the
right endorsements to publish in upcoming Passages
book releases and yours might make it to print! Learn more
about submitting your endorsement
here.
Adventures in Odyssey product marketing guru Brock
Eastman and our very own Kevin McCreary have teamed up to
create a video called The Mystery of Home Run Inn.
What is it for exactly? To win valuable cash and prizes—and
they need your help to help them win! Here's what they need
you to do. First,
watch the video. Then give it a five-star rating
after you create an account. You can vote once per day until
the contest ends, and these two contest participants highly
recommend you do that. And hopefully we'll hear a positive
report from our winners in the coming days. Oh, and they
have an extended version they'll be releasing just for you
guys in the future.
Speaking of contests, Brock is holding
a special contest of his own, the
Look Like Obbin Contest. Learn more about it and get
involved. Valuable prizes are in the winnings... and it just
might be you who hits the jackpot!
The
Fall 2010 season of Adventures in Odyssey has begun
to ignite imaginations in a very special way with a peculiar
mystery revolving around Odyssey's clock tower.
The Mystery of the Clock Tower, Part 2 airs today
with a resounding and satisfying conclusion:
In spite of Eugene's best
efforts, the computer that controls the town clock is not
responding and now the clock has begun a backwards countdown
to a potential disaster. But who is behind the plot and why?
Is a broken heart to blame? Can the mystery be solved before
it's too late?

The
latest video edition of the
Official Podcast will certainly excite Focus on the
Family Radio Theatre fans. Take a look at what's in
store in this out-of-the-ordinary podcast:
Radio Theatre is back on the air! Go behind the scenes
with the creators, plus previews of the Imagination Station
book series, Album 52, and more!
The
podcast features a special interview with Radio
Theatre creators Dave Arnold and Paul McCusker and gives
lots of fun tidbits about the show. Beginning on October 9th
(this Saturday), Radio Theatre's production of The
Voyage of the Dawn Treader will begin airing weekly on
radio stations once again. If you're new to Radio
Theatre, it features stories ranging from The
Chronicles of Narnia to At Home in Mitford to
Les Miserables. This poses new hopes for current fans
who may have been disappointed to hear that Focus stopped
making productions as frequently several years ago. With the
show back on the air, hopefully more interest and funding
will become available in the future to bring new productions
to the market. Of course, that starts with you. If you enjoy
what you're hearing, you can purchase the productions. You
can see a full schedule of what's coming up during the next
year
here. Or you can see an extended video interview
with scenes not featured in the podcast
here.
Also mentioned in the podcast, the
Imagination Station
book series now has a new website. You can visit
TheImaginationStation.com to learn more about the
books, experience special clickbook previews, and more.
At long last, Focus on the Family is
now offering individual
Adventures in Odysseyepisodes for
download in one central location. Where? At the
Focus on the Family Store.
Here's how it works. Simply search for
the Adventures in Odyssey album or episode title
you're looking for and add it to your cart. Odyssey fans can
now purchase the entire mp3 album, or they can purchase
individual episodes for $1.99. It depends on what you're
going for. Either way, just about the entire series is
available in the
store, so it shouldn't be too hard to find what
you're looking for. Plus, the audio quality is top-notch, so
you're getting great audio for your purchase. And that's
what Odyssey fans want.
To make things easier, we've updated
our Episodes
pages to reflect the new convenient location for episodes.
From now on, all you have to do is find the episode you are
looking for on the Odyssey Scoop and look for the button
below:
This image links to individual episodes
if they're available. We've added links for all the episodes
from 1987-2010 for your convenience. That includes every
episode available for download. It may interest some of you
that the latest Adventures in Odyssey
release,
Cause & Effect, is available as a complete
mp3 download as well. Individual episodes from this
album are available, too.
I think this should be an answer to
many fans' questions about audio downloads. Enjoy the new
benefit of being an Odyssey fan!
For those of you
who enjoy podcasts, a new podcast has hit the
internet airwaves.
Audio Theatre Central
recently made its debut and focuses in on what
they call the "most superb dramas currently
bring produced." Adventures in Odyssey is
among them, along with Focus on the Family's
popular Radio Theatre, and a newer
series, Lamplighter Theatre. The three
podcast hosts are all fans of radio drama and
will be covering the ins and outs of the top
radio dramas. Having heard the first podcast for
myself, I think I'll be keeping my eye on the
podcast to see what they come up with. AudioTheatre Central will feature
behind-the-scenes-interviews, insights,
commentaries, and news regarding the top "family
friendly" radio dramas on the market.

new podcast and listen for yourself, visit
Audio Theatre Central.

Having already listened through the album
completely myself, I can affirm that AIO is
