The Family Portraits episodes
began as a test series of 13 episodes to see if audio drama could be
used as a safe alternative to many forms of entertainment... and it
was! Some fans have argued that AIO should release a special
Family Portraits collection, but I personally believe that the
episodes would present a less-than-professional first impression of
the series. The episodes are not at the standard that Adventures
in Odyssey is in terms of writing and sound design. Family
Portraits is certainly a thing of the past.
Fortunately,
A Member of the Family was released in
The Adventure Begins, the first
collection of AIO episodes. It introduces Whit's daughter Jana, as
well as her son Monty.
Two other Family Portraits are included in
albums. The Family Portraits episode,
Whit's
Visitor, is available as a special bonus feature in Album 9,
Just in Time. Also,
The Letter is
available as another bonus feature in Album 14,
Meanwhile, in Another Part of Town.
So in essence, Family Portraits lives on... or at least part
of it.
If you're interested in finding a rare copy of the
original Family
Portraits album, good luck. Your best bet may be to keep your
eyes on eBay. You
never know. Someone out there may be trying to auction it off to the
highest bidder. |
