Ah, Eugene Meltsner. How old indeed? Let's compare his age to others so we can get a better picture of his own age. First, Eugene is slightly older than Connie, who is about 5-7 years older than the kids who come to Whit's End. Eugene is the same age range as Katrina Shanks Meltsner, and both of them (and Connie) are younger than Jason Whittaker by a few years. So Jason is older than everyone I mentioned so far. However, he is younger than Bernard, Tom, Whit, and Jack Allen. Bernard is slightly younger than Tom, Whit, and Jack Allen, who all rest within the same age bracket.

Now that we have a better picture of where Eugene fits into the timeline of life, I would place him at his late twenties/early thirties. The series does not reveal his age, but we have a pretty good idea.
