Audio Help
Why
won't the audio play?
You
may not be able to hear audio for various reasons:
1.
Check to make sure you have the appropriate audio program installed.
RealPlayer/RealOne is required in order to listen to ".rm"
files, and Windows Media Player is required in order to listen to ".wma"
and ".asf" audio files. If you do not have either program,
please download the appropriate program.
2.
There may be a problem with our file. We may have mistakenly linked to the
online file. Please contact us if you think
this is the case.
3.
The server may be having problems. Our online web host occasionally has
down days and rough days. Be persistent or check back at a later time/day.
Where
can I download RealPlayer/RealOne and Windows Media Player?
A
free download of the RealOne Player is available here.
A
free download of Windows Media Player is available here.
It
is absolutely necessary that you have the correct program installed in
order to listen to a sound clip.
What
does "buffering" mean?
When
you click on a link to listen to an audio file on the internet, RealPlayer/RealOne
or Windows Media Player opens, depending on which option you choose. When
you choose to listen to a particular file, it must buffer, or download,
first to allow the file to
be streamed without waiting. It connects to the odysseyscoop.com
server and plays it from there. You may notice that buffering takes a few
seconds or more. When buffering reaches 100%, the file will start playing.
The first part of the clip is downloaded into memory and then begins to play
while
downloading the next non-downloaded part. As most connections aren't perfect,
sometimes information comes late, in this case because there is a buffer, the sound can keep playing.
If it hasn't used up all the buffer before the next part comes through, your listening isn't
interrupted.
It
seems to have stopped buffering. What should I do?
If
the audio file stops buffering (ex: 55%), keep waiting. Buffering should
complete and the audio file should start playing. If it stops buffering
and stays that way for a long period of time, try closing RealPlayer/RealOne
or Windows Media Player and try again. If buffering still keeps freezing
up, this may be due to server problems. Try back later or on a later day.
The server may be experiencing slow periods and downtime.
The
audio file is playing, but I don't hear any sound. What's wrong?
First
and most importantly, check to see if your volume is turned up. If you
don't know how to turn up the volume on your computer, seek a help
tutorial on your computer. If the volume is turned up and no audio is
playing, contact us. Something may be wrong
with the audio file on our server.
Why
does the sound clip keep cutting in and out?
This
may be due to server troubles. Please try again at a later time or day.
Our server may be slow some days.
