Tallmadge City Schools: more
than just a website launch
During
my senior year of high school, my software teacher noticed that I have a
God-given ability to create professional websites. It was because of this
that she gave me the opportunity to benefit from my knowledge and help to
teach website design to my Software Technology class.
It was during this time that I created
special step-by-step tutorials for the class to understand. Using Microsoft
Frontpage, students would learn how to effectively use basic HTML
formatting for website application. At first, the students had trouble,
yet they quickly caught on. From there, my instructor assigned a project
for each student to create a website using the principles they had
learned, for which they would receive a grade. It was certainly a
beneficial project to partake in, and it taught me patience and how to
deal with people effectively.
Because of this, the next semester my
instructor gave me a second opportunity to help another class learn the
basics of websites. An opportunity became available to create an improved
website for the Tallmadge City Schools District. As a class project, a
friend (Steve) and I would design the basic layout and graphics of the
website, then the class would create the content based on the template. We
required certain limitations to keep the website unified. And it worked.
By the end of my senior year of high school, we had released the Tallmadge
City Schools website. Not only that, but a special memo was sent
around to the entire school district thanking the two of us for our work.
That made it all worth the effort. Working with the opportunities the Lord
lays before me gives me the edge I need to keep going, to type in an URL
and hit the 'Return' key.
