Doris Rathbone
Doris Rathbone is a perfect compliment to
her husband, Bart...which is to say she’s anything but perfect! Less
than the model wife and mother, she is the sometimes nagging
co-conspirator in Bart’s schemes.
Doris Rathbone fits right in with the
Rathbone family. She is often struck by the need to spy on the more
normal residents of Odyssey for an adrenaline rush, and her husband Bart
condones it. Doris, although rarely appearing throughout the program, is
understood to be just as strange as her husband. In her free time, she
enjoys looking through people's garbage. Because of her conniving
nature, she often gets herself into trouble, especially in retail
stores. She isn't the healthiest when it comes to her diet, and neither
is her family. Instead of seeing her family gather around the dinner
table each night to converse about the day's events, she spends her
meals gathered around the television. In fact, she even claims to be
unable to eat without watching TV.
Doris has had her share of adventures with
her son Rodney. Doris, Rodney -- and even Bart -- exposed Tom Riley's
relationship with another woman at some "big shot hotel" (Hillingdale
Haven), but only to be ashamed when they found out it was merely Tom's
wife.
Doris also takes kindly to shopping. She
feels somewhat stifled as she has expressed her inward feelings about
Bart's lack of attention to his wife. She feels a little lonely because
she feels like she is constantly locked up in the house. She has an
uncanny temper which can be quite loud at times. Consequently, Doris has
to put up with a lot in the Rathbone household. Despite her unruly
actions at times, she does have a conscience and realizes when she makes
mistakes.
